(to become king of a court of kelpie, you drown the largest thing you can find and wear its skull as a coronet. the emperor was too covered in seaweed and mud to make out the color of its mane, and the rings it wore were too rusted. caomhnoir didn't know who it used to be. emperors don't form this far from the ruins, in the open plains and the reflection of the sun off seaglass.
