Amber eyes flickered open, taking in the room as the dull light trickled into the room from the window above the bed. No glorious rays shown through the glass that morning, only the faint glow of light as the sun was tempered by the overcast sky. The pleasant lullaby of rain beckoned Cassius to once more fall back to sleep. The abundant warmth of the bed mixed with a rather sleepless night almost persuaded him to simply turn over and sleep the day away. However, there was something much more important than sleep that needed tending to today. Any other day, he would be content to fall to such whims but he had business in the city. It was the entire reason he had traveled to the capitol city in the first place. As you would expect, the city had plenty of guards and army folk, and, as someone who deserted the royal army, it isn't hard to see why he would actively avoid such a place.

Something big was in the works or he would have never left his quiet little life in the country. That very something had to do with the death of the late Duchess who supposedly passed away in her sleep. The rumors and power struggle that ensued was bound to happen and interested him little. What he was interested in was a notice that the late Baroness's advisor sent throughout Kylrg. Little information was given, merely a search for those to go on a mission, further details would await whoever arrived at the castle in the capitol. A mission from some Duchess's lackey can only mean one thing: a big payout! While it didn't specify the exact reward either, how could it not be? That, was the exact reason he would dare venture into a city with such a heavy military presence.

Such business with the reward of enough gold for him to live out his days in comfort was enough to urge him to escape the clutches of a comfortable bed. Rising from the bed, slowly and quietly, Cassius quickly picked up his clothes and dressed. Stopping in front of a mirror for a moment, he ran his hand through his hair to tame his bedhead and to wipe a smudge of red from the corner of his lip. Now confident that he was looking good, since he was going to a palace after all, the elf crept to the door and quietly closed the door behind him. How kind the innkeeper was to allow him, with a bit of his personal charm, had allowed him a room for free. Given how he might have not anticipated how much more expensive the inns, and everything else, would be here, a free room was a welcome change.

After making his way to the main floor of the inn, Cassius waved to the cook. "Give my regards to Sira when she wakes up, will you? I'm very appreciative of the room." The elf said in passing on his way out the door. Pulling the hood of his cloak over his head to protect against the rain, he was headed off towards the castle which stood tall against the many significantly smaller buildings of the city. Well, at least he didn't have to ask for directions. Picking his way through the streets, he made sure to keep away from any soldier-like people. The guards probably wouldn't know anything, Well, the average guards anyways. While he doubted any of them would actually be looking for him or recognize him, he didn't feel like taking that chance and ending up in the dungeons for the rest of his life. The streets were emptier than they probably would be, given the rain, since most people would have sought a way to stay dry.

But, after maneuvering through the streets and finally ending up at the castle, he was escorted inside after saying he was there about the notice the duchess's advisor had sent out. He was led through the castle, the inside looking just as he would have expected. Save that it didn't look nearly as old as the structures outside. But, he supposed, that was due to the interior being redone after the elves took it from the warring humans. Eventually, he was led into a long room with a central table with filled most of its center. Chairs encircled the table and various books, charts, and maps could be found around the remainder of the room. It was probably some kind of war room or a room made for strategic meetings of some kind, if he had to venture a guess. Given that he was the only one in the room, it would seem he had to wait on the advisor to show up, along with anyone else who might happen to want to take on the mission. Either way, Cassius sat down in one of the chairs and made himself comfortable.

Goyaun growled as, the rain continued to poor down on him, he was holding one of his shields over his head, so he wasn’t getting that wet, but the constant “plink plink plink” the droplets made as they hit the metal was starting to irritate him. Not to mention he was constantly struggling not to get stuck up to his waist, in the muddy road. He wished, he could had gotten into the capital before it started to rain, but he had taken his time getting there and he hadn't thought it was going to rain. Nevertheless he trudged on, he didn't want to be late when meeting the duchess's advisor, he never usually accepted missions, but it was the duchess's advisor, he would be a fool to refuse, although he would look like a fool if he tried to enter the place soaking wet and muddy, he would have to find some time to clean up once he got into the capital.

Goyaun trudged over to the entry, which fortunately had a little bit of an overhang to protect from the rain. He was let in with no questions, which was good, he didn't want to be held up there for long and he entered the city, where the streets were condideralably less muddy. Goyaun walked most of the way under structures or on the side of the roads where there was protection from the water, taking the opportunity to stomp and flick most of the mud off of his boots. There weren't many people out, he didn't blame them, who would want to be out in such gloomy weather. Goyaun strapped both of his shields to his back, but kept a hand by the handle of his short sword, it’s been awhile since he had been in the city and he didn't know who would be around after the duchess's death, he wasn't sure what these people would think of him , just some crazy dwarf trenching around in the rain.

Goyaun reached the palace, it seemed rather grand, but not as lively as when he last saw it, although it has been a while and he has never actually been on the inside of the place, he assumed the inside would have had a similar feeling. When he first entered he was a little confused on where he was going, no one had come up to him to stop him or anything so he just kind of wandered around for a bit until someone approached him, they asked him why he was there, and honestly Goyaun was surprised they didn't take his weapons away. He told them he was looking for the Duchess's advisor as they had requested him to be at the palace for information on a mission. They understood and lead him back around the palace until they reached a room, they told him the Advisor would meet him in there and as Goyaun entered the room left.

The room was fairly large, there were a lot of things in the room, but over all the room looked like a place netting’s would be held, which was nice, although Goyaun wasnt able to see over the table, he would probably have to stand on a chair or something, then he noticed some one else in the room, an elf “ Are you the Advisor?!” He asked.

The soft pitter-patter of rain was comforting for Ziya as they stood in front of the entrance to the capital city. The sound of the city was dulled by the rain, but Ziya still considered it loud compared to the sounds of the forest. It was a bit unnerving, they had never been to a city this big before, and so they stood there, evaluating the situation. The guards at the gate traded looks of amusement and perhaps some level of annoyance amongst themselves at the seemingly star-struck visitor. A curt nod was aimed in their direction out of politeness at this, before Ziya moved on towards their destination. They would not want to be denied entry now that they had made it all the way here, after all.

Step by step the looming, regal building that was their destination inched closer and with each step Ziya was contemplating over what made them go there in the first place. It hadn’t been that long ago when they had happened upon a notice one of the birds, inhabiting the area Ziya had been living in, had brought into its hoard of things. The notice was curt and withheld a lot of information, which piqued Ziya’s interest. It had to be related to the baroness’ passing somehow, after all the timing was just too convenient for it to be anything else. They were not a person to care about political affairs or notices from high ranking people at all, but this notice was different. It held an air of mystery, one that just beckoned them to at least be at the initial meeting, and if it did not meet their fancy, they would leave. At least, that was their plan for the time being.

Odd looks were sent their way as they casually made their way through the rain. They tugged the hood of their cape lower, to hide from prying eyes, not that it would matter much with their hair covering their face anyway. Rather… it was a nervous habit of theirs, as they did not like having so many eyes on them. It made them uncomfortable, made them remember- no, no they would not think about that right now.

A soft sigh left them as the castle entrance was upon them. Ziya retrieved the notice from a pocket, and showed it to the guards who were rather sceptical of it. They eyed the small, harmless human for a long time before finally letting them pass and calling someone over to escort them towards the meeting room.

The walk was short. No words were spoken as the escort left Ziya to enter the room on their own. Ziya eyed the door warily, hearing a muffled voice on the other side. Surely the meeting hadn’t already begun? They were sure they had made it there earlier than mentioned in the notice. There was only one way to find out. With a light push, the doors hinges groaned as it opened just enough to let Ziya pass through.

They took a step forward, entering the room and taking it in. Their eyes stopped briefly on the interior, before moving to the people. An elf and a dwarf… neither of them dressed in any sort of formal wear. It was safe to say the meeting hadn’t started yet after all. With a nod towards the two Ziya walked over to the table and sat, leaning their head on the table and waiting for whoever else was supposed to show up to this place.
