I keep record of how many dragons of what level I have exalted, so I can say, after exalting 152 dragons of level 7, I've received 2 gems exactly twice. Not sure if level plays into the gem probability but I'm throwing it in anyway..

I've gotten gems from exalting a couple dozen times, personally. I got a lot of gem bonuses during a VS conquest a few years back, but normally they're pretty sporadic.

For anything level six and up I've gotten two bonus gems (it's rare, though), but only ever one bonus gem for things like hatchlings. I've never seen a three-gem bonus, and the gems don't detract from the treasure payouts, if that helps ^-^;

I never have anything to exalt?? Never got gems, although I've seen it happen to my friend.

It's pretty rare. I usually get it once or twice every 60-100 dragons I exalt excluding hatchlings, which seem to give me gems more often for some reason >.>

I've registered my exalted fodder in spreadsheets since I joined plague dom activities, and noticed that I've gotten gems at a 1.67% ratio (that's like every 60 dragons aprox). The amount is random between 1 or 2 gems, 50/50% chances.

And the lvl and age of the dragon doesn't affect its drop chances (I'm used to exalt every lvl of dragon, and one day I even accidentally exalted a newborn hatchling and got two gems from it).

So I can say it's pretty rare for people who doesn't exalt a lot, but for dom enthusiasts isn't a novelty to happen.

I think it's happened to me twice? Always like 2-3 gems.

Yea I've gotten a couple.. for some reason I though you got them if the dragon you exalted was gene changed but I guess not..? IS there a specific reason why it happens?
