Those who only heard stories would sit in awe, eyes glued to the cosmos above, whether peering through a telescope or enjoying the planetarium. Apollo was different, he wasn't here to enjoy the sights. Visiting the Observatory was like a chore for him. He never gave himself enough time to enjoy it, merely whizzing in and out with whatever he needed - whether it be a book from the small library, a spare part for something back at the lair, or the current position of whatever star or planet he was watching. Today was no exception, he was here to grab a book and that was that. As the only scholar of his clan, Apollo had a lot on his shoulders. Sure, there were fighters, who could teach the hatchlings how to defend the clan, but without Apollo they would lose their Arcane instinct, the hunger for knowledge that many of them shared. He took great pride in what he did, even though his clan was currently home to only a handful of hatchlings - he was okay with that, it meant more one-on-one time. They looked up to him, often asking about the constellations. One young dragon even asked him how weather worked, and Apollo had a lot of fun explaining. The Observatory was oddly busy today, more so than usual. He had to think a moment, wondering if maybe he forgot about a comet passing by or meteor shower. He pushed the thought aside, confident that there was nothing of importance happening today, he just decided to visit at a bad time. He slipped into the small library, bursting at the seams with books about the cosmos. This particular room of the Observatory was quieter, less populated, since most of the attraction was in the telescope itself. Apollo took a moment to relish in the silence, scanning the rows upon rows of books.

At this point, he and the Spiral female had known each other for several months; he knew well at this point that she was... easily distracted, but this was ridiculous. To her credit, the lithe female spun around almost at once and, seeing the expression on Etien's face, immediately looked down at her long white claws. The scientist immediately softened, and gave her a little half-smile. It was irritating how impossible it was to be mad at her. "Please?" The be-speckled Tundra asked, giving his voice a joking tone to appease her. "I would like to keep focused." Carwen had been speaking to an elderly Imperial selling all sorts of interesting concoctions when Etien spoke up. When hearing his hurried tone, she blushed immediately. Unlike him, she had never ventured out of the the Glades before, and she was entranced by everything she saw in the Arcane realm. How could she not be? She was used to simplicity -- a land of flower gardens and the smell of earth -- and here, everything was different. This was truly the land of science. Still, she was being so rude. Etien had been kind enough to escort her here, to a land she didn't know, since Squash and the others were too busy to amuse her. He had been here several times, after all, and was much more goal oriented than she could ever hope to be anyway. "Of course, Etien, I'm sorry!" She exclaimed brightly, rushing to his side. "I was just looking at the woman's wares. I thought they could be helpful." She added with a small frown. All she could think of these days were the roses she was responsible for, curling and turning brown on the vine. Etien smiled sympathetically. "Don't worry, Carry. I'm sure we'll be able to find an answer to your problem," he stated as they walked up the Observatory's many steps. Although he was a pessimist by nature, the botanist did not have the heart to express anything other than total faith in Carwen's hopes. To be fair, he wasn't so sure she would listen to doubt anyway. Carwen nodded, and flexed her shimmering wings in expectation. Worry of rose death aside, she was excited to be venturing somewhere so new. (Ooc: @Rovurr, here it is, I am so sorry for the delay and I hope it's okay!)

( it's perfect! C: i subbed to the forum, so no need to ping me anymore! let me know if you sub, too )

Although he could sit in this library forever, Apollo had a reason for being here. He began to run his talons along the spines of the books, mouthing their titles as his eyes grazed over them. He would hesitate on a couple, rereading the titles, perhaps pulling the book slightly from the shelf to see the cover, before carrying on. If he could have it his way, he would pluck each and every book that he hadn't already read from the shelves and bring them home. Finally he found the one he was looking for - a copy of an ancient tome telling the story of the Arcanist, simply titled, 'From the Stars'. The Skydancer smiled fondly, then turned and left the library with his book.

As he began his descent down one of the many staircases, he picked up on the conversation between two dragons he assumed were from another region. It was the end that stuck out to him; "find and answer to your problem." He immediately became intrigued, and began to slow as the neared the pair. Perhaps his students could wait.

(Ooc: Subbed indeed! c:)

Etien pushed his glasses up and swallowed back not a small amount of guilt. In truth, he wasn't so sure the Arcane region would have what Carwen was looking for. He was the only one on the clan to have traveled through each realm at least once, and knew the Arcane area somewhat well. It was not so very oriented in horticultural problems... it was more esoteric than all that. But Carwen had been so disheartened, and so the odd group had agreed something had to be done. Even if the realm did not hold the answers the Spiral dragon was looking for, at least there would be the joy of a new environment to distract her.

"Oh my gosh!" Carwen exclaimed as she and Etien entered the Observatory. It was impossibly grand, and so very different than what she was used to. There were lines of books as far as the eye could see, some of which looked ancient beyond belief, and enough tall staircases that the wide-eyed female was convinced that even in a lifetime, no one could read everything here.

Etien smiled, relieved. The clan they both belonged to was an hodgepodge, but they all cared particularly deeply about Carwen. She was just so earnest, even when she was someone simple in her understanding in the way things were.

It was then the Tundra male noticed someone else in their vicinity. He looked over, but quickly glanced away. An Arcane scholar, no doubt; from past experience he knew the area was overrun with them.

Carwen, however, had no such knowledge. Green eyes gleaming, she gave the stranger a wide grin. "Hi there, sir," she began. "Do you work here, by any chance?"

Inwardly, Etien groaned. She just couldn't help herself...

( beautiful! sorry, i think i misread something in your first post x.x i thought by many steps, you meant within the observatory. my bad!! )

Although Apollo's eyes were fixated on the pair, he was perplexed when the Spiral spoke to him, as if he thought he had blended right into the walls. With so many others like him roaming the Observatory, he felt like he fit right in, as inconspicuous as any of the other Arcanites. Perhaps that was why she spoke to him. He stiffened a bit, embarrassed to have been caught staring.

"Ah," he began, giving himself a second to regain his composure. Apollo was a true gentleman, and standing there with wide eyes and mouth ajar was not a good look for him. "My apologies - I don't work here, no." He glanced down at himself with a soft smile, as if silently saying, but I understand why you would think that.

"However, I couldn't help but overhear your conversation." He felt better just telling the truth. "What is it you need help with? Maybe I could point you in the right direction. I know every inch of the Observatory." His attention had been solely on the Spiral, but once he finished speaking to turned to the Tundra and nodded politely.

(Ooc: Ah, I understood! Sorry, I only realized that could be confusing after the fact...)

Etien grimaced as his traveling companion acknowledged the stranger. Nothing against the Skydancer, of course, but he couldn't help but be protective of the Spiral girl. She was so trusting, and based on stories he had heard from some of the others in the clan, her kind nature was not always rewarded. Plus, if he was being completely honest with himself, he always found himself slightly intimidated in this realm. Not only was he not born in an area known for its scholarly pursuits, but now he lived primarily in the Glades... which he had considered a somewhat backwards land back when he was a student.

Carwen, however, had no such hangups. As the Skydancer replied to her question, pink flushed across her pale skin. "Oh, I'm sorry!" She exclaimed. "I just assumed..." Of course, one knew the saying about assuming. At some point she really ought to catch herself before she blabbed like that.

The stranger's next statement, however, brought a wide smile on her face. "Ah, really? I have, uh, I've been having a horticultural problem, actually."

( totally my fault! )

Apollo made a dismissive gesture. It wasn't the first time he was mistaken as an employee, and it wouldn't be the last - although, at this rate, he may as well join their ranks. He found himself shifting his gaze back and forth from the two, despite the Spiral being the sole speaker. The Tundra seemed uncomfortable, almost, but he brushed the thought aside.

"Horticultural?" He echoed, head tilting. Of all places to come for an issue like this, they chose the observatory? Sometimes he had to take a step back and remember that this building wasn't just for space, it was for science, whether it be agriculture, astronomy or anything in between. Unfortunately, this seemed like the one subject Apollo was lacking on, and it was made evident in his expression.

"I see," he murmured, a talon raising to his chin in thought. He knew of several dragons who could help, but they weren't here. "What is your problem, exactly?" To keep the Tundra feeling included, he shot him a smile.
