Oh this has been terribly rude of me, here I am sent to tell you all about how your Wind Flight dragons are doing here in the Shadows. My name is Ihapere and well I was born in Shadows I was lucky enough to be selected for this awesome job! We usually try to select a dragon that came from the flight they will be speaking too. So I thought to open my message with exactly how surprised and excited I was when your Windlings sneaked up on me as I waited to greet them last week.
I have been enjoyably busy since then attempting to help all from the little breezelings up to the fully grown Windies that have been sent to serve here in the Shadows. At first some of them had problems with getting used to the closed in spaces of our forest with all the trees, ruins and the Bramble Keep taking up so much space and altering the wind currents that they use so very well. There has been a line up of dragons looking to practice flying with all the new Windies as they have been coming up with new techniques and ways to silently get around for pulling new tricks on everyone here.
*smash, rumble* Speaking of new tricks they do not always go quite as planned. I must head back and see just what has happened this time. I will come back with more news by the end of Trickmurk, promise!"

First off, I must thank you! As like last year, the hatchlings you have sent brought many aquatic animals with them and it's amazing to watch.
Most of the hatchlings themselves have adjusted to the Tangled Woods quite well, while others have become very homesick for their previous clans. Do not worry though, we're doing everything we can to make them feel at home and welcome here!
Oh! I almost forgot to mention, it appears a group of hatchlings dared each other to eat some glowshrooms the other day, and now they look like walking nightlights! I assure you that is the only side effect that the 'shrooms have... that we know of.
Many of the elder members of our flight have taken the hatchlings under their wings to mentor and train. We have so many dragons going in and out of the coliseum, feeding the animals, and helping out around the bakery.
That reminds me, a couple of hatchlings were messing about there yesterday and managed to knock over a bag of flour. The bakers were crying with laughter as the two little hatchlings tried to clean everything up but themselves. It was truly a sight to see!
I fear I must wrap up this letter soon, I can hear the new hatchlings planning to prank one of the elder dragons of my clan and I had better stop them before something bad happens.

I must confess, after hearing about some of the… adventures my Flight-mates have had with our new arrivals, I am relieved to have been picked to attend to those known for being a bit more sedate. Which is not to say that my job has been uneventful! I suspect that it is my calling as an architect that led to me being assigned to shepherd our new friends from Earth, and I must say that never in my life have I seen the kinds of projects your new arrivals have dreamed up! A graceful arch that expresses an entire family’s lineage. The light playing on seemingly-random cracks in a wall telling the story of a legendary deed. I could study under your masters for a lifetime and never reach such heights.
And the colors! Never again will I think of the Earth as a brown and nondescript thing. The gemstones that your dragons decorate their monuments with are dazzling to the eyes and the heart, so gracefully chosen and placed that they seem to grow out of the stones they adorn. (In some cases, the builders have told me, they do!) I have asked where on Sornieth such beauty is found, and in a surprising number of cases the answer has been “Here, in the Tangled Wood.” To think that these treasures have been under our feet for so long, and we never knew because we didn’t know how to look for them!
Earth, the dragons that you have sent us have done much to beautify and fortify our realm, both in what they have brought with them and what they have discovered. I’m sure that we will all look out upon our home with new eyes thanks to their contributions.

They’re around asking questions and dismantling things, “What is this,? How does it work? Have you tried hooking it up to a generator? Automation is the way of the future!” It’s just like being back home.
Then again, we keep them busy too! The training teams have been active all hours, getting them ready for the great fight ahead to keep Sornieth safe. Some take to it better than others, an aspiring mind has made what she calls a ‘plasma gun’ and while it’s a weapon of high caliber, her enthusiasm means we’ve had to patch a few holes in the lair and it night it makes the most awful grumbling noises but what can you do?
For the others, who are less keen we do our best to find a place where their energy goes to good use. Once properly employed you see, the enthusiasm grows on its own. It’s not all fighting in the trenches, [i]ingenuity[/i] that’s what’s needed here! And luckily the tributes have that in spades. Or is it clubs? I can never remember.
Oh, drat and darn it! Some of the younger ones have gotten to the airship. No! Wait! You have to be careful with the wiring or you’ll… break it. Enough hum drum and writing then! Things to do, I’m busy, busy, [i]busy[/i].

Hello, hello! How are we all, neighbours from across the way? My, but I’d forgotten how bright Light flight truly is; I guess my eyes learned to adjust to the gloom, hmm? It was such a treat, honestly, to see how many of your own came to us. It was truly a sight to behold, all those multi-hued, patterned scales speckled blue by the fungi, and all those golden eyes shining like beacons in the dark. I am surprised you still have warriors in fit condition, after your fierce competition last week. Did you keep them in reserve just for us? I am honoured, as are we all, by the sheer numbers you contributed. Many hands make [i]light[/i] work, huh?
And don’t you bright things know how to work, oh my. I remembered the dedication of my home clan’s warriors and scholars, but by Shadowbinder, you certainly sent us your best. Your scouts have the most detailed reports, meticulous in their recording, and those maps they drew were sublime in their intricacy. As for your warriors, I did not expect to see rows upon rows of them drilling and sparring at the crack of dawn, but all the better for us, I suppose. Though some of the elders would complain, of course; they do rather value their sleep. Unfortunately they’ve not been getting much of it, as your hatchlings are most enthusiastic trainees. They were holding a sing-a-long yesterday. You should have heard those young voices, so cheerful and chirping the songs I remember from my fledgling days, mixing with the voices of our own children. My heart was as warm as the sun that dominates your domain, it was simply wonderful. Oh, and I would be remiss if I did not mention your secretaries! Why, they are so organised, they ended up refining our filing system, and redoing some of our, well, how shall I say, less than… satisfactory documents. You never heard this from me, mind, but I think our resident bookkeepers would do well to learn a lesson or two from yours.
Of course, I have spoken nothing of your fellows are coping, have I? Silly me, I couldn’t help but gush my praises. However, I can report with confidence that they have all settled nicely, and are getting along well with everyone else. The only thing of note is that they are all rather fond of collecting light sources. Their camp is aglow with a jumble of dripping candles, lanterns of every shape and shade, assorted bioluminescent mushrooms; even bottled up fireflies. It’s a sight to behold, and it lends the place such a welcoming atmosphere. Very picturesque, and I would be lying if I said that it hadn’t inspired some lair renovations of my own.
All in all, I must express my sincerest thanks to your flight. Your diligence, your pleasant nature, your decorating and filing techniques, all these things are serving so well to make this the best Trickmurk yet. I hope you enjoy the festivities, because thanks to your help, I know they will be magnificent. From us all: thank you.

Some time after my last letter to you, some of my clanmates brought it to my attention that I have been… lax in one area of my duties. I was so enamored with your stonemasons and their creations that I completely forgot to keep an eye on your hatchlings. (I have never been good with hatchlings; I did warn them when I volunteered!) I didn’t know what your little ones had gotten up to until my clan’s priest informed me that the Shadowbinder was demanding to speak to me personally.
Earth Flight, you will be pleased to hear that your children are more than kind. They have been raised hearing stories of the Earthshaker’s lonely solitude, and of those who have gone to serve him for the sole purpose of keeping him company. They have taken this information to heart, and it seems they believe it to be a universal truth among the deities. I don’t know what I was expecting regarding my audience with the Shadowbinder, but it was not the veritable carpet of hatchlings that covered the ground around her! The little Pebbles that you have sent to us appear to have decided that she must be as lonely as your Earthshaker, and have taken it upon themselves to keep her company and cheer her up.
It is neither wise nor polite to laugh at one’s deity, but I must admit that it took great restraint not to. Our dark and mysterious Lady of the Shadows looked so bewildered, adrift in a sea of tiny voices telling her cheerful jokes and tiny claws patting her head comfortingly. Fortunately, I was able to commandeer some of your largest and gentlest dragons to herd some of these compassionate hatchlings away from her and allow her some breathing room. The situation is now more under control, though the little ones still refuse to actually leave the Shadowbinder’s presence. I knelt and pled forgiveness for allowing the situation to occur in the first place, of course, and vowed to find a more suitable (and secure) place for the hatchlings to play, but she let out a great hiss of what I think may have been laughter. “Leave them as they are,” she said, flicking out a shadowy tendril to catch a little Snapper who had been trying to climb her tail and lost its footing. “They… amuse me.”
It is, as I am sure you in Earth Flight know, a great thing to see one’s deity looking as contented as she did then. Thank you for your children, and for the kindness you have instilled in them.

GREETINGS AGAIN, EARTH FLIGHT!
Some time after my last letter to you, some of my clanmates brought it to my attention that I have been… lax in one area of my duties. I was so enamored with your stonemasons and their creations that I completely forgot to keep an eye on your hatchlings. (I have never been good with hatchlings; I did warn them when I volunteered!) I didn’t know what your little ones had gotten up to until my clan’s priest informed me that the Shadowbinder was demanding to speak to me personally.
Earth Flight, you will be pleased to hear that your children are more than kind. They have been raised hearing stories of the Earthshaker’s lonely solitude, and of those who have gone to serve him for the sole purpose of keeping him company. They have taken this information to heart, and it seems they believe it to be a universal truth among the deities. I don’t know what I was expecting regarding my audience with the Shadowbinder, but it was not the veritable carpet of hatchlings that covered the ground around her! The little Pebbles that you have sent to us appear to have decided that she must be as lonely as your Earthshaker, and have taken it upon themselves to keep her company and cheer her up.
It is neither wise nor polite to laugh at one’s deity, but I must admit that it took great restraint not to. Our dark and mysterious Lady of the Shadows looked so bewildered, adrift in a sea of tiny voices telling her cheerful jokes and tiny claws patting her head comfortingly. Fortunately, I was able to commandeer some of your largest and gentlest dragons to herd some of these compassionate hatchlings away from her and allow her some breathing room. The situation is now more under control, though the little ones still refuse to actually leave the Shadowbinder’s presence. I knelt and pled forgiveness for allowing the situation to occur in the first place, of course, and vowed to find a more suitable (and secure) place for the hatchlings to play, but she let out a great hiss of what I think may have been laughter. “Leave them as they are,” she said, flicking out a shadowy tendril to catch a little Snapper who had been trying to climb her tail and lost its footing. “They… amuse me.”
It is, as I am sure you in Earth Flight know, a great thing to see one’s deity looking as contented as she did then. Thank you for your children, and for the kindness you have instilled in them.

Coy here again. Thank you again for sending us these dear Fire Flight members. It’s been a wonderful week getting them settled.
I last wrote during a scavenger hunt where we sent the Sparks off in teams to find all our major landmarks. The Flames played hard, and hardly set anything on fire, all of them wanting to win. Veteran Shadows were amused to see the Sparks scampering about taking rubbings from ruins and gathering up 5 bramble thorns before asking directions to their next target.
I did get a letter from the Plague representative, passing along some warnings. Apparently his recent huge influx of Fire Dragons set about pasteurizing all the ingredients stored in their kitchens, traumatizing the cooks. I wrote back, thanking him for the information, and noting that our Fire intakes were banned from our kitchens since last year’s incident. I had to ask a Fire intake to explain the situation, and based on my understanding, pre-cooking all the ingredients does sound troublesome. I’m not quite sure why you all do it.
One of our older dragons of Fire origin did get up to an interesting experiment. He gathered a large quantity of Madam Shadowbinder’s drool, and reduced it down in the camp stoves, before including it in a candle. These candles, when lit, sparked in all sorts of colors in turn, including some that the older Fire dragon claim are impossible. While I suspect these candles would be very popular for lighting next year’s Trickmurk, there has been a declaration that we are not to use ShadowMama for science without her aproval in the future.
I set the Sparks to catching fireflies, which they were very excited about at first, until they meet a firefly. After they found their first, they were slightly confused that they were not actually on fire, but they soldiered gamely on, although they decided that they were gathering for ‘nightlights’, not for actual lanterns. I’m not sure how the concept of ‘nightlight’ applies here in the Tangled Wood, but I’m delighted that the Flames were willing to play along with my plans.
Our newest Shadows from the Flames needed no encouragement from me to man the lanterns for shadow puppet shows. It seemed to me that they were thrilled by the interface of flame and shadows to tell a story.
All in all, these lovely Sparks you sent have settled in well. They’ve declared apprenticeships in alchemy and shadow puppetry, cooking and fortune telling, as well as many others. I look forward to seeing their work for years to come.
