I browsed the skins section of the Auction House before designing this skin. There were five dragon/sex types with no skins available. These included four in the breeds mentioned in the contest announcement: Imperial male, Skydancer male, Wildclaw female, and Snapper female. While I only saw a snapshot of what's out there, I decided to pick one of these four. I then searched the Auction House for all four dragon types, to determine what elements are most popular among them. Of the over 500 dragons listed, nearly 16 percent were Arcane, including over 20 percent of the male Skydancers. I then went back and looked again at the skins available in the Auction House, classifying them by element to the best of my ability. Of the 36 different skins listed, over 20 percent were fire/lava/ember-related. Nature- and lightning-related skin types accounted for about 10 percent each. But there were no clearly arcane skins. That's when I decided to do an arcane male Skydancer skin. But what constitutes an arcane skin? I turned to the ancient Celts for an answer. The Celts blended natural themes with strong mystic symbolism, such as eternal knots. In the 800s, they created the Book of Kells, which showcased their art in the context of the Christian religion. In addition to reflecting the ancient mysticism of the Celts, the artwork in the Book of Kells is beautiful. It inspired me to create the Kells Skyking.

Aight! Made a post earlier to reply to someone requesting a nightvale skin. But here is my official skin submission. Slippin' in right at the last moment. >.>
I've spent more time on this thing than I'd like to admit. Then when 75% done with it I started worrying that my hard-edged-brush painting might look too textured but at that point I'd already put many hours in and was like might as well let it have a shot.
It's my first finished skin. I call it. 'Ancient Numbat' 'coss it's supposed to give the wildclaw a more prehistoric look and it's based loosely on a numbat's coloration. (And, well, a pearl mutation cockatiel for the wings. BUT AT LEAST I KEPT MY PHOTO REFERENCES TO AUSTRAILIA).
