Why is it when you failed to login correctly after so many times, your account is locked for 2 hours? Is it to prevent hackers from logging in to your account?
It's to deter people trying to brute force their way into your account. Brute forcing more or less means repeatedly guessing at your password.
If they really wanted to, they'd keep trying regardless of the time limit, but it would take literal years so it's not really viable anymore for them to keep guessing blindly.

Makes perfect sense to me. That was a good decision that the admins made.
