-EDIT-
Nevermind this, apparently the discarded eggs in my acount settings are just a glitch that many people experience.
I've been under the wrong impression that my eggs were discarded because I had no space in my lair.
Thanks everyone who cleared this up for me, now I am regret free :D
-/Edit-

NEVER, and I repeat, NEVER breed two dragons when you don't have at least 5 empty slots in your lair.

I learned this the hard way. I would upgrade my lair if I had noticed, I just didn't pay attention and clicked the Breed button.

I got two eggs "Tough luck... It could be worse though..."

Then I felt like crying blood tears when I went to my account settings page and realized what those 3 discarded eggs meant...
Damn, I feel like crying right now. It's the first time I'm breeding a non starter breed and I mess up badly. I could have gotten a 5 egg nest. It's not even for the achievement, because I got that on my first clutch.

Basically, I only had two empty slots on my lair, so my advice is, before breeding, make sure you have enough slots for the max amount of eggs.

... I should have seen this sooner.
I'm hoping I'll be able to sell a couple of dragons before my second batch of eggs hatch, I have 3 spots free and 6 eggs in my 2 nests... 3 are hatching tomorrow -.-

If you aren't Booning every nest, you have five days to save up that treasure and expand your lair!

From the wiki:
Quote:
Eggs have a gestation period between 5 and 6 days. During this time, it is recommended that they be incubated once a day. Incubating the eggs every day removes their chances of perishing. If one or two days are missed, the likelihood of egg death increases.

Parent dragons that are caring for a nest will be displayed on each side of the nest, and will be ineligible for trading, sale, or exaltation during the gestation process.

At the end of the 5-6 day gestation period, the nest will be ready to hatch. For purposes of convenience, eggs that are ready to hatch will no longer require incubation, and will remain in a player's nest until the player chooses to manually hatch them. They will also not perish while in this state. (This allows a player to clear more room in their dragon lair if the new hatchlings would put them over the allotted limit).

If you don't have space and they're ready to hatch, don't worry! They won't go bad while you work to create space!

I didn't know that, thanks @twitchy !
I think I just now understood what @Masaru meant, that if your dragons lay 5 eggs but there's only 2 spots in your lair then 3 eggs will be discarded?

I will double check on that for you, @Kobli. Based on the Encyclopedia, it appears that would be the case as they've accounted for lack of space by not having ready-to-Hatch eggs go bad.

Really @twitchy ? But that has never happened to me. If that's the case, then what do those 3 discarded eggs mean then?

@Masaru, I honestly don't know and I am following up on this. I'm quite curious myself.

This is incorrect! The number of eggs in your nest is not related to spaces open in your lair. If you don't have enough space when they are ready to hatch they will stay there safe and not rot until you do.

Discarded eggs come from when you remove rotten eggs from a nest. There is a bug where people get a record of discarding eggs when they haven't discarded any

I'm back, but life is being complicated. It probably will take awhile for me to reply, because I log on irratically.
