TOPIC | Breeding Dragons - Color Outcomes?
I've been trying to get more into breeding dragons, especially food-themed ones.

I understand how breed outcomes and gene outcomes work, but I am still stumped on how the end result color for each tier comes out?

The reason I mainly ask is I cannot seem to find any help on this anywhere or even on the breeding information page itself.

Basically, if I wanted to breed two dragons and end up with a tertiary Chocolate color, how would that work out?

Do I need two dragons with shades of brown as tertiary? I'm very confused and when I can't find the exact colors I need on the AH, I have no clue how to breed for a brand new perfect dragon.

When you breed two dragons with a primary and b primary respectively, you will get descendants with a, b or any color in between them on the wheel primary. It is like cutting a pie along the lines of colours of the parents. For example, if you breed silver and orca, you can get silver, orca (colours of parents) or platinum (the color between silver and orca)

So you can breed white with an orange, red with green, just as long as chocolate is in their parents' teriary or in the 'cut pie'

Note: the 'cut pie' always refers to the smaller portion of pie

Please pardon my very bad speaking skills

The colors on FR are a wheel, like this. If you have a pair where one dragon has a Maize tert and the other has an Obsidian tert, then the offspring tert colors will all be between Maize and Obsidian, including those colors themselves. Which color it is will be random between all possible colors.

This tool can help you see the color ranges for your dragons.

This is an example. In the example, one dragon is tan/tan/tan and the other is tan/latte/auburn. The offspring are guaranteed a tan primary. The offsprings' secondary will be between tan and latte, giving them 7 color possibilities. Chocolate is further past latte on the color wheel, so chocolate is not a possibility for that secondary. The tertiary can be anywhere between tan and auburn, a range which includes chocolate! But the range is wide, so the chances of a chocolate tert are small.

Find chocolate on the color wheel, or on a color dropdown list, and look at its color neighbors. Like brown or auburn. Those are very close and therefore good colors to help you breed for chocolate. You want two dragons with terts as close to chocolate as possible, but make sure that chocolate is in the breeding range. (So Ginger + Brown wouldn't work, since chocolate isn't in their range. But Ginger + Copper would work, with 1/5 chance of chocolate.)
