Obviously there is more to this game than money, but I would like to know of more ways of getting a good income. Help?

Have you been to the Fairegrounds? http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=faire
There you can play Runestones of the Arcanist and Jigsaw to obtain treasure. ^^

Crim's cart is a good source of income for hoarders. She asks for 5 new items every hour.
You can vendor unwanted treasure or items back to the system through your hoard tab by clicking "sell". It will award you the default sell value for the item (visible in the tooltip). My strategy has been to keep a little bit of everything in stock so that if Crim asks for it, I have it. If a stack gets too big, I vendor part of it for golds.
Selling dragons to other players and exalting them will also be a good source of income (you can make money breeding your dragons. :-) ) But this early in the game's life there's not a lot of dragons. We expect a population boom a couple months in where people will be swimming in unwanted dragons.

Is the coliseum supposed to award treasure as well eventually? I've noticed a treasure icon on the page before you continue on to another match.

@Warpwind At this time, the Coliseum does not award treasure. However, you could sell the items you acquire from there for treasure. :D
