@Jaena I researched the series and I think it is the one I was searching for. On the downside though, it apparently seems to have been out of print for a while so probably the most likely places to find the series would be a library or a second-hand bookshop. Looks like I'll have to keep my eye out for a possible glimpse of/for it. Thanks for your help.
