TOPIC | ....Making plush toys?
I tried to sew a teddy bear with my friend once, and it was quite fun! I prefer crocheting, though, when it comes to creating dolls/plushes, but i always make their clothing with my sewing machine.

@tytytytytytyty1 I had several dragons that I got around to posting on DA, I just put them up for sale, and they went really quickly! I need to make a few more dragons like them, really, as I've got piles of fabric I impulse-bought and now need to find a use for. XD

I made a Totoro (from this pattern - other people in this thread have already mentioned the creator, and I can confirm that her patterns are very good, and a lot of them are free) I really enjoyed it and meant to do more but I'm bad at sticking to a single hobby. One day I'll come back to it and finally make myself the adorable plush spider I always wanted. If anyone is looking for patterns, a while back I found this enormous database of free patterns of variable quality.

I too have been recently (re)learning how to sew, and I've ended up with a few plushie ideas for some of the fabric left over from my projects. The ideas are Star Wars themed (a tooka doll and a twi'lek), but since I haven't actually made them yet I don't know how they'll turn out. I've never really made plushies before. However, I have also been (re)learning how to knit as well (I know, basically I got kind of taught how to do these things years ago but only recently I've decided to actually do them), and one of my projects has been to create a pattern for a Mirror Plushie, mostly so I can make some of my own dragons :P I've only made a prototype so far, and it still needs a lot of work (how do I do the wings?), but I'm happy with how it's turning out. She ended up looking quite cute (though she's only got 1 wing because I don't think I have enough pink yarn to make the other one). I've done some sewing before, and I've made some plush pattern tests, but my main problems are A) nowhere near me sells fabric, B) I have no sewing machine so actually sewing the pieces together can take hours and my hands get cramped in that amount of time

@DarkusDragon This depends on what country you're in, but you can totally check out if there are any online fabric shops you can use. I get 99% of my fabric online these days, as there's greater variety and usually lower prices, even factoring in the cost of shipping. If you're in the UK, feel free to PM me - I have a whole list of great online fabric shops that I use regularly and trust.

If you think you'd enjoy making plushies, it's definitely worth considering getting a sewing machine, as it does make it SO much easier. It doesn't need to cost a lot, either - mine is a basic model that cost £115 new, and I've been using it for over five years (with servicing every ~100 plushies). If you have any sewing clubs near you, they may have a sewing machine you could use at club meetings, or possibly rent, or even a second hand one that you can buy cheaper than a new one. It's also worth checking your local classifieds/Craigslist/etc, as people giving up the hobby will list them there.

I've sewn many of my own plushies. Unfortunately I currently don't have pictures of them rn. Even entered one into our local fair and got first place on it. Might post pictures of some of my plushies soon.

As far as artists, I actually don't follow many of them, as I am running out of space for more stuffed animals. I just make plushies on a whim sometimes when I am bored.

As of right now I am not working on plushies, but actually making clothes to fit my stuffed fox, Jake. He's my grounding element for my anxiety. Had him since I was 11. So because he literally goes everywhere with me, I like making little clothes to match whatever event, weather, or holiday going on at the time.

I really, really want to make plush toys for myself. There's so many characters I wanna make that I know will never be available as actual merchandise.

...But it feels so daunting to even start. I'm not good at projects that take a long time to complete, plus I'm worried about working with pins with my cats around. I guess I could just shut them out of a room while I'm working but ehhhhhh

Doesn't help that some of the ones I wanna make would get a bit complex and I have 0 experience so they probably won't even turn out very good. I guess for now I'll just daydream and admire everyone else's work. sigh ;_;
