TOPIC | pet game hype and disappointment?
I tried to enjoy Furvilla, but my god, it was just so boring. Heard the community isn't that great either, so that's a massive no-no, too.

I haven't tried out Dappervolk myself yet, but a friend recommended me to it and I thought just the homepage looked so cute? xD I might try it out once it's officially launched.

As for Mythaura, I just gave it a quick check but it looks pretty interesting. o:

Will never be more disappointed by anything more than neopets. Froze me twice years ago for completely nothing, I get one account unfrozen not too long ago, bam frozen again. The site is only toxic and everyone knows the staff are horrid

I played Pine Ridge for a while. It was a pretty cute game where you play as the owner of sheep dogs, that you train and breed. It had its pyramid issues, but I liked it - until I took a short break, and returned only to find that all my dogs had starved to death, I was at the bottom of the 'level pyramid' again, and had lost all the IRL currency I poured into the dogs. I was never actually informed by the game tutorial that dogs will die, that information was available in a FAQ that was optional to read and really long. My fault for not reading it I guess. But I didn't play again.

Pet games often seem to suffer from trying to be way too many things at once. Is it a Nintendogs-type game where you care for your pets? Is it a dressup game at its core, like Flight Rising? Is it an exploration game, like neopets or Pokémon?

So many games seem to really mess up their priorities. :/ More features is usually a good thing ofc, just not at the expense of a centered game design.

I was playing both WolfPlay and a horse breeding game called HuntAndJump and left both for the same reasons. In each, it felt like a popularity contest when you tried to make more currency. I would sell things in-game at both suitable prices abd stupidly cheap prices and I could hardly ever get anything sold. And of course, if you paid real money it seemed like people were more likely to notice your sales.

With WolfPlay, there was also just too much drama daily in the chats. It made me shy away from playing.

With HuntAndJump, there just wasn't much to do outside of breeding. There is daily showing but you just click a button and wait for results. And the rest is essentially forums. Add to it I had a negative experience with reaching out to an admin when it was desperately needed, but being utterly ignored while other people got responses and I just felt like it was time to move on.

I feel the exact same way about both Furvilla and Dappervolk. The only major draw to Furvilla was the ability to add my own OC's, however the excitement for such a gimmick was well and truly dead after a month or two and the non-stop drama did nothing to help.
I took a year long hiatus only a few months after joining due to boredom (for reference, I joined FR back in 2013 and only 6 months ago became completely bored with it), and when I returned around a year later, the site was completely non-newbie friendly, there was so much added that I just had no idea what to do. When I did finally get a grasp on the new content, I found that it honestly wasn't all that exciting.

Dappervolk.... I played it for about a week and was just bored. Very limited character creation, uninteresting characters, not worth the hype.
