.: FAQ's :.

:: What is a Nuzlocke Challenge?

The nuzlocke challenge was created back in 2010 when a 4chan user named "Nuzlocke" decided he was bored with how simple and easy pokemon was, so he made a set of rules to make the game more difficult. These two base rules were "if a pokemon faints, you must release it, as if they have died" and "you can only catch the first pokemon you encounter in any new route or area". Since his first comics, nuzlocking has become a major staple in the pokemon community.

:: What are the rules exactly?

As stated above, there are really only two official rules to the challenge, but there are always, of course, variations. These variations are going to be listed below!

Any additional questions? Please ping @Cassichu to have them added here!

823_FA01_CD73_E1_CBCB06_C9322_B28384_F71302071_A9618804.png
.: The Basic Rules :.

1. If a pokemon faints, it is considered dead, and must either be permaboxed or released
2. You may only catch the first encounter in any route or area

.: Additional Rules :.

:: You must nickname every single pokemon you catch | this makes a closer connection and the idea of losing the pokemon more devastating.
:: Dupes Clause | in the event you run into a pokemon you have already caught as your first encounter, you are given another chance to catch a different pokemon
:: Shiny Clause | in the event you encounter a shiny, you are permitted to catch it separate of the challenge
:: You must set your battle style to "set", which takes away the option to change pokemon when a trainer's pokemon has fainted
:: Limited use of items in battle or having the use of healing items in battle completely disallowed
:: No Mega Evolutions
:: Level limit | none in your team may surpass a certain level, or they cannot be used until you have defeated the next gym; generally the limit is the highest level of the next gym leader's pokemon
:: Exp. Share is disallowed
.: Popular Nuzlockers :.

I am by no means 100% in on who the popular nuzlockers are, so if you have any contributions to this list, please PM me or post here with a ping!

Please note that all the names are actually links! Click them to go to either the artist/content creator's youtube page or tumblr!

:: Egglocke | Many of the same rules apply, except every first encounter in every route must be traded with a friend/ect. for an egg; the identity of the egg can be a mystery or known, but the pokemon must be hatched and raised from level 1
:: Wonderlocke | Only available in ORAS/XY and an internet connection is required! The first caught encounter in any area is immediately sent into wondertrade, and your new pokemon is the 'mon you receive in return.
:: Sleeplocke | A normal nuzlocke in terms of the rules, but the entire nuzlocke must be completed without sleeping; if you fall asleep during the challenge, you've lost.
:: Aesthetic-locke | Choose only your favorites, and only your favorites, at any cost! Click the link to be taken to an official rule page.
:: The 6-Locke | In the beginning, you are either assigned or choose 6 pokemon, which you usually will obtain through breeding or friends. :: Babylocke | Game must be completed with pokemon on their first evolution only - evolving is not allowed

After the loss of three of his members, however, Clyde has begun to doubt himself to a crippling degree, and if it weren't for his pokemon pulling him along, he would have fled long ago. Meet the Team

**As of the Fallarbor Town**

:: Clyde the Trainer
Clyde is an awkward, inexperienced young trainer who wasn't even entirely sure he wanted to pursue a life of battling - though a chance encounter with the professor kinda thrust him into the profession anyway. He's a young man who suffers from "foot in mouth" syndrome more often than not, and tends to speak before it goes through a mental filter, and while he can be impulsive and bullheaded at times, his heart is in the right place. After the loss of three of his members, however, Clyde has begun to doubt himself to a crippling degree, and if it weren't for his pokemon pulling him along, he would have fled long ago. His anxiety over his "failures" as a trainer has led to struggles with giving orders in battles, and he's more or less a nervous wreck at the moment as he struggles to come to terms with his latest death.

:: Fennel the Shroomish
A highly confrontational and argumentative pokemon, Fennel more or less told Clyde that she was coming with him on the journey, and has quickly moved the ranks to the "team leader", whatever that means. She's often the one ordering the others around and trying to keep everyone out of harm's way, and while she can come off as brutish, she carries a heavy heart for the few losses that have occurred in the team, and more often than not blames herself for her teammates' downfalls. With the newest death of Sage, Fennel has softened slightly, though still remains steadfast and sharp tongued when it comes to the others, especially Hemlock. She has, however, proven herself as an important support for Clyde, though her own denial of her depression is a ticking time bomb.

:: Pepper the Combuksen
As Clyde's first pokemon, Pepper takes it upon herself to be protective of him to the point of almost mothering, which she's glad to report is much easier now than it was when she was a torchic (though she misses riding on his head more than she dare admit). Though she doesn't say much, Pep is kind of a beacon of stability in the group, and the only one that, while intimidated by Fennel, won't blindly follow the shroomish's orders. She takes near full responsibilty for her trainer, and as she and Fennel are the oldest pokemon, she considers the breloom a dear, close friend - a mutual feeling that Fennel hasn't voice.

:: Cilantro the Sandshrew
A shy, nervous little thing, Cilantro was the first pokemon to join of his own will. He emerged from a pile of soot and so stubbornly clung to Clyde's leg that he had no choice but to bring the little guy along, and while he's yet to say a single word, he's incredibly dependent on Clyde. The one pokemon Lan has warmed up to is actually Hem, as the little sandshrew was fascinated with his round shape. He's also now the youngest of the group.

:: Oregano the Machop
Being caught fairly recently, Oregano still has a wild side. He's rebellious and bull headed, but is so enamored with how strong and beautiful Pepper is that she can basically lead him wherever he needs to go. He does like to try and flaunt his strength more often then he should, however, and it has gotten him into tight situations already despite his new membership, though it's never seemed to phase him.

Deceased

:: Basil the Skitty | lvl 8-11
Basil was a freshly caught young skitty, the first male, and was quite a lady's man. His life was cut short while trying to take on a team magma's poochyena to show off to Sage, and with his guard down was quickly taken down. His grave lies just outside of Rustboro, where he was originally caught.

:: Thyme the Nuzleaf | lvl 5-16
As Clyde's first catch, Thyme held and continues to hold a special place in the trainer's heart. She was a sweet young pokemon who wanted nothing more than to create bridges and cause her teammates to smile, and while she was soft spoken, she had surprisingly sound advice for her young age. She is buried beneath a great tree on route 112, where her grave is now tended to by the kind elderly woman nearby.

:: Hemlock the Voltorb
Clyde wasn't ready for the Gyarados he found facing him down, and Hemlock knew it. Despite the frantic heal, the voltorb wasn't able to take down the massive water dragon on his own, though he was quickly avenged by his young friend, Cilantro. His body was buried by the water on route 114.
