Pokemon: Hard Mode

Well, I was sitting here, having just started a new nuzlocke on my Omega Ruby, and was wondering, "hmm, how many pokemon nerds on FR nuzlocke and like to talk and chat about it?"

I mean I still don't know the answer but I'm curious! How many of you guys out there have done, are doing, or are planning to do a nuzlocke challenge on any pokemon game? I decided to go ahead and make this thread explaining what a nuzlocke challenge is, and also making a hub where we can chat and talk about our experiences, losses, and possibly even chat, roleplay, and interact with other users who make characters out of their trainers and pokemon who they journey with!

So, here goes!

:: What is a Nuzlocke Challenge?

The nuzlocke challenge was created back in 2010 when a 4chan user named "Nuzlocke" decided he was bored with how simple and easy pokemon was, so he made a set of rules to make the game more difficult. These two base rules were "if a pokemon faints, you must release it, as if they have died" and "you can only catch the first pokemon you encounter in any new route or area". Since his first comics, nuzlocking has become a major staple in the pokemon community.

:: What are the rules exactly?

As stated above, there are really only two official rules to the challenge, but there are always, of course, variations. These variations are going to be listed below!

.: The Basic Rules :.

1. If a pokemon faints, it is considered dead, and must either be permaboxed or released
2. You may only catch the first encounter in any route or area

.: Additional Rules :.

:: You must nickname every single pokemon you catch | this makes a closer connection and the idea of losing the pokemon more devastating.
:: Dupes Clause | in the event you run into a pokemon you have already caught as your first encounter, you are given another chance to catch a different pokemon
:: Shiny Clause | in the event you encounter a shiny, you are permitted to catch it separate of the challenge
:: You must set your battle style to "set", which takes away the option to change pokemon when a trainer's pokemon has fainted
:: Limited use of items in battle or having the use of healing items in battle completely disallowed
:: No Mega Evolutions
:: Level limit | none in your team may surpass a certain level, or they cannot be used until you have defeated the next gym; generally the limit is the highest level of the next gym leader's pokemon

:: Wedlocke Challenge | A variant created by youtuber Marriland, which is incredibly complicated but involves a "couple" of pokemon that can only be changed out between one another. I've linked a video in which he lists out the rules he has formulated for this challenge!
:: Egglocke | Many of the same rules apply, except every first encounter in every route must be traded with a friend/ect. for an egg; the identity of the egg can be a mystery or known, but the pokemon must be hatched and raised from level 1
:: Wonderlocke | Only available in ORAS/XY and an internet connection is required! The first caught encounter in any area is immediately sent into wondertrade, and your new pokemon is the 'mon you receive in return.
:: Sleeplocke | A normal nuzlocke in terms of the rules, but the entire nuzlocke must be completed without sleeping; if you fall asleep during the challenge, you've lost.
:: Aesthetic-locke | Choose only your favorites, and only your favorites, at any cost! Click the link to be taken to an official rule page.
:: The 6-Locke | In the beginning, you are either assigned or choose 6 pokemon, which you usually will obtain through breeding or friends. These are the only 6 pokemon you are allowed through the entire game, and the challenge is to make it to the end, completing the game with only the original 6 pokemon you were given.
:: Babylocke | Game must be completed with pokemon on their first evolution only - evolving is not allowed

Killian would much rather be doing anything else other than battling and training, but he has to find a way to support himself and the only way to do so for him as of now is to train up a set of pokemon and start fighting other people for money. Killian tries as hard as he can to distance himself from his pokemon because he doesn't want to feel sad if they die. He tends to be very hard on his pokemon, mainly because he really wants them to live. he can even seem a bit cruel sometimes, berating his pokemon if they can't pull their own weight. :: [b]Dante the Pidgey[/b] Dante is a cruel and vicious pokemon with a lust for violence and destruction. He was once the alpha of a flock of Pidgey on route one, and would lead them in vicious onslaughts against the trainers who were unlucky enough to cross through his territory. He was less than pleased when Killian snuck up on him and captured him. Since he is trapped in servitude to Killian, he has decided he is going to try and benefit off his trainer as much as possible, hearing that trainers can evolve him and perhaps make him even stronger than before. :: [b]Biggoron the Nidoran[/b] Biggoron is a relaxed and very chill pokemon who seems to not really care about much of anything. He seems to want to sleep more than he wants to fight and is extremely easygoing. He's not very easily motivated and tends to prefers to laze around and make weird jokes rather than fight. However, he is very observant and has saved the members of his team from being poisoned several times with his natural resistance. :: [b]Evelyn the Weedle[/b] The smallest of her breed, she was bullied quite viciously by the bigger, stronger members of her family and left to perish just outside Viridian Forest. Killian did not plan to capture her, but when he saw her laying there, bleeding out and looking helpless, he couldn't help but try and rescue her from her predicament. Birb foiled my first chance at obtaining a Bidoof, and needed many, many bailouts from fellow team members as a Starly. Her paper thin defenses and nature do not help matters, either. Named entirely on a whim, Peppersalt has proven to be the best comedy skit reference I've ever made. Had some trouble backing up her attacks early on, but has gained immense ground since learning Spark. Won the cat fight against Mars with a Spark to Charge+Spark combo. I never thought Shinx without Ice Fang would be worth anything. :: [b]Twizzler the Beautifly[/i] The third foiled Bidoof encounter. I despise Twizzlers and licorice in general, and might've been too harsh on the little Wurmple that showed up when I wanted a Bidoof. She took some time to train, isn't the most reliable team member, but she's decent. Her status moves can at least give someone else a chance to live if things go south. Currently the designated fodder for our upcoming battles against Gardenia and Jupiter. :: [b]Kaz the Alakazam[/b] A repeated stroke of RNG luck from the Nuzlocke deities, minus the rather useless nature. Took three straight hours to train up to level 16. I absolutely despised the grinding and I don't recommend anyone straight up train an Abra unless necessary. Won't be seeing much frontline action in upcoming plot battles due to Dark weakness, but is a useful powerhouse nontheless. :: [b]Mallard the Psyduck[/b] While I'm ok to have a Water type at my disposal, I have more hopes for our campus geese than I do for this duck. Mallard has been one of the hardest Pokemon on the team to train and doesn't have reliable enough attacking power to save himself. If there's anything I've learned from half a decade of Nuzlockes, it's not to trust the halfbaked team members. :: Killian the Trainer
A slightly angsty teenage boy who doesn't actually want to be on his pokemon journey but his mother grew fed up of him not doing anything and kicked him out of her house to go on his journey. Killian would much rather be doing anything else other than battling and training, but he has to find a way to support himself and the only way to do so for him as of now is to train up a set of pokemon and start fighting other people for money. Killian tries as hard as he can to distance himself from his pokemon because he doesn't want to feel sad if they die. He tends to be very hard on his pokemon, mainly because he really wants them to live. he can even seem a bit cruel sometimes, berating his pokemon if they can't pull their own weight.

:: Dante the Pidgey
Dante is a cruel and vicious pokemon with a lust for violence and destruction. He was once the alpha of a flock of Pidgey on route one, and would lead them in vicious onslaughts against the trainers who were unlucky enough to cross through his territory. He was less than pleased when Killian snuck up on him and captured him. Since he is trapped in servitude to Killian, he has decided he is going to try and benefit off his trainer as much as possible, hearing that trainers can evolve him and perhaps make him even stronger than before.

:: Biggoron the Nidoran
Biggoron is a relaxed and very chill pokemon who seems to not really care about much of anything. He seems to want to sleep more than he wants to fight and is extremely easygoing. He's not very easily motivated and tends to prefers to laze around and make weird jokes rather than fight. However, he is very observant and has saved the members of his team from being poisoned several times with his natural resistance.

:: Evelyn the Weedle
The smallest of her breed, she was bullied quite viciously by the bigger, stronger members of her family and left to perish just outside Viridian Forest. Killian did not plan to capture her, but when he saw her laying there, bleeding out and looking helpless, he couldn't help but try and rescue her from her predicament. Evelyn has come to fight alongside Killain, and even though she might not be the strongest, she is very determined.

Me: a nonbinary trans uni student who realized they haven't legitimately touched a Sinnoh game since middle school. Instead of writing up a story, I've decided to go full meta on this run-with the occasional live tweet and team pictures to track my progress. I may also be the first Sinnoh Nuzlocker to actually want a Bidoof on my team, and not as an HM slave. I will nickname everyone, regardless of whether or not I can think of a name on the spot-no name websites allowed. Thus, the team of "what names?!" was born.

:: Rhyme the Turtwig
A female starter Pokemon on the second soft reset, with a neutral nature to boot. Both of her attacking IVs are awful, but her defense IVs are through the roof. She's otherwise a solid team member who can pick up the slack against almost any foe. Will prove more difficult to handle as the game progresses and she picks up a quad weakness to Ice.

:: Birb the Staravia
The reason the team of "what names!" exists. Birb foiled my first chance at obtaining a Bidoof, and needed many, many bailouts from fellow team members as a Starly. Her paper thin defenses and nature do not help matters, either. Has become somewhat more reliable since evolving, but Intimidate and naturally high speed won't stop her from being at risk from an early death.
