Does anyone else play this? It seems like such an unpopular game because I can barely find any tips outside of cheats and such online.
I have Zoo Tycoon: Complete Collection and I really want to get Zoo Tycoon 2. I'll just have to pester my mom about buying for me xD
If anyone else plays this game and has the Dino Digs expansion pack, please tell me how to make spinosaurouses happy. I currently have three and no matter what I do I can't get them happy. They where perfectly fine at first but now they just seem to hate me. They keep telling me they don't like rubble and they need for foliage, but when I get rid of the rubble and give them more foliage they're still upset and trapple the trees into rubble because of it. Like they get rid of half of the trees before a minute passes.
Also how do I get visitors to buy stuff from my stands? I was doing really well at first but now almost no one is buying it. Maybe it's because my spinosaurouses are so upset so they keep escaping and not as many people are coming? They have the right fence, but they keep destroying it. It's really annoying to keep having "Doombringer has escaped" "Swamp has escaped" when I'm trying to make more exhibits. I'm on year 5 yet I just. Can't. Contain. Them. I really don't want to get rid of them, because they're my favorite dinosaur and I adore them, but I already had to get rid of my Allosaurouses because I couldn't get them to say and the maitenance workers refused to fix the fence no matter what I did. (Never getting Allosaurouses again, in any zoo, ever.)
Feel free to share your strategies and such, I could really use it. I'm not great at because a zoo tycoon. ;-;
What I do though is name my animals, but put the species at the end of the name so I know what species it is if I get that they're upset in my messages, because I have so many animals I'm going to forget what species everyone is. It's useful. For example, I have an antlantic swordfish named "Ridgeback" (Yes, I do. Don't judge me.) And his name shows as "Ridgeback (Swordfish)." It's an easy way to keep track of them. (My spinosauresess just have "Spino" so I actually have some room to name them... And so I don't have to remember how to spell it every time I name one...)
Also here are things you can do for this game to unlock certain stuff:
Name an exhibit Xanadu: Unlock the unicorn
Put a mermaid statue in a water tank: It becomes a mermaid. If you have Marine Mania, the mermaid statue will unlock at a random time.
Name an exhibit Super Croc (I believe you must have dinosaur digs): Unlock the Deinosuchuse
Name an exhibit Cretaceous Corral: Unlock the triceratops
Yea just some things I've found.

I prefer RollerCoasters, but man do I still love the original. Wish Microsoft would get this on GOG so I could buy it, my disc went out ages ago and I resorted to yar-harring it.

Ok recently I hadn't played zoo tycoon in a long time, and I suddenly had the urge to play it. (Probably because we where doing zoo stuff in school)) I looked around and found out roller coaster tycoon case. I looked inside, thinking of downloading it on my computer so I could play some tycoon game while I was waiting to find it, and boom zoo tycoon was in it. No idea where out roller coaster tycoon disk is.
I honestly had never liked that game. I haven't played it much, but that was probably because it made no sense. No matter what I did I couldn't get it right. (Maybe I should have gone through the tutorials though...) I couldn't do anything with it and eventually gave up on the game.

This makes me want to play again! I also have the original complete collection.
Spinosauruses and other large predator dinosaurs will make rubble pretty much no matter what. I always position their cave in a way where I can stick all the foliage behind it, and prevent the dinos from getting back there by using the fences or large rocks that they can't break. It wont look as pretty but they'll stay happier. I also build double fences so that if one side decays or a dino breaks through there's another right there.
Snow leopards are harder to make happy than the big dinos in my experience.
I've heard people will buy more things if you put the food and souvenir stalls in the back of the park so they are tired and hungry by the time they get there, but you might just need to play around with balancing your park admission fee and stall prices until people buy more.

Mmm, that might be a good idea. I'll try it!
Also with the food stalls, that also might be a good idea, I'll have to start building towards the back of my zoo to try it.

Ahhh I love Zoo Tycoon! This makes me want to play it again! I don't ever remember having such a hard time keeping my dinos happy however. My issue was always getting guests interested in my marine shows..
The best way to contain dinos are to make their exhibits a few levels into the ground, if it's low enough they can't jump out and you don't have to worry about them breaking the fences.
I used to bunch up all my foliage together instead of spreading it out, it looked like poo but the animals seemed to like it.
I also found this in a guide, I don't know how good it is, but it might help?
Density : 100 (2-3 per exhibit)
Terrain : 65% coniferous, 25% grass, 5% dirt, 5% freshwater
Extras : 8% foliage (dawn redwood trees (+)), 2% rocks (medium coniferous), dino cave
Exhibit Cost : $44,300 (20x10, 2 adults, 20 trees, 100 suitability)

I have every expansion pack for both ZT1 and ZT2, and I love them to death. Unfortunately I can't get the screen to expand to my full monitor size, so playing it is a pain in the *** at times, but it's still fun to play for nostalgia purposes.

i might try that, but if I make it a few levels into the ground won't scientists complain that it's unaccesible?

@DragonFire
I hope I can explain this in a way that makes sense. Basically when I make low level exhibits I leave a one block gap for a path to an exhibit door. Then I level the terrain on a slope so the scientists can still get to it. I don't think dinosaurs can break the doors unless I'm mistaken.
This is the closest I can find as an example, but I would place the exhibit door at the bottom of that slope and put electric fences on either sides of the slope. Those would be the only fences you would have to keep an eye on.
