I'm way too poor to expand my full lair, but I want to get new dragons for some of my theme groups. I have multiple dragons that I don't really care about, but as soon as I start thinking about selling them, I get attached and can't do it :<
Does anyone have any advice on how to get out of this mindset? or maybe someone can relate and we can vent about it lol
Send them to rescues! I've had to clear out permas a few times, and usually i'll hand them off to rescues or something similar. You don't really need to worry about them being instantly exalted, and maybe your dragon will end up with someone who really loves them.
For me personally, after a dragon has been out of my lair for a while I lose attachment, so services like this are really helpful
-rescues that add lore and art specifically are pretty good
or alternatively, you can just take the leap, sell the dragon for fodder, and. hope you don't stay too torn up about it lol

i eventually just hit a breaking point where i realized 'i am keeping this dragon not out of enjoyment of the dragon, but because they've been with me so long i feel obligated to hold onto them.'
if a dragon has reached the point that they're only hanging around because of guilt rather than actual love for them, they go.
:Y
if it's someone i'm not 100% sure of i'll try a makeover first and see if the Spark reignites. if it doesn't... bye.
if you find that that doesn't pare things down enough, hibden tasks are a good way to get extra space for free if you have the ability to grind coli. or if you have enough T/G to buy the mats, you can usually get 6-10 slots before you hit up against something moderately expensive. i know i stopped expanding my main lair and focused on my hibden agres ago since i wouldn't use the lair space if i had it, anyway, and it's saved me so much treasure since i have the ability & patience to grind most of the slots. i'm literally only now, 10 years in, back to adding lair space for cheevs.

Man I had a lot of dragons I had the same problem with. Eventually the desire for new and for space drove me to get rid of them.
Some I regret and wish I had back... but that's maybe only like 3 of the many I purged.
But! That was before the Hibernal Den was released! If you can get a bit of space (and it's so much cheaper to get hibden space than lair space), you can have them take a little nap for a while. If you're like me, sometimes when they're in Hibden limbo you can use it as a bit of a test for if you want to keep them around or not.
Like putting things you dont use but cant bear to get rid of in storage for a while to see if you're happy to find them again when you go back or if you really didn't miss them.

Definitely definitely definitely Hibernal Den! I'm the same. I'm really sentimental and I get attached easily. Poke around in your flight forum and elsewhere, there are threads that help with HibDen items!! ;o;

Seconding this. The hib den is a life saver and much cheaper than lair slots.
An additional boon is that you can use your hib den as a "trial" area for dragons you're unsure if you wanna keep. Whenever I need to do spring cleaning I chuck all dragons I'm unsure about into a tab in the hib den and then wait a month or so to see if I miss any of them.

I just exalted a 6 year old dragon. It was older than my account, because it was the very first dragon that I was gifted from a friend I followed from a different pet game. u.u But alas, they haven't been on FR in years and that dragon was just...there. Taking up space. Not at all to my tastes and eating up a slot. But I still held onto it for 5 years, lol.
Something you might consider is putting the dragon in your exalt tab in your hibden. I've had loads and loads of people over the years send me messages, asking if they could have a dragon from my exalt tab for one reason or another. If you get a nibble, you'll know that the dragon is at least going to be used in a breeding project before it's exalted. Although you may get lucky, and that dragon turns out to be exactly what that person was looking for in a project. This way, you're able to get the dragon out of your den and into the hands of someone who actually wants it (at least for a while).

If you're like me and the "hibden" recommendation doesn't help (that's my main lair) I put them in my temporary tab and if u don't miss them elsewhere off they go! Or a friend who can keep them for a little helps too

I've got maxed space and I'm going through a lair cleanout right now. I still have plenty of space but having over 200 permas makes me antsy. I did a lair census spreadsheet and it forced me to examine every single one of my dragons and whether or not it sparked joy. Some were easy to let go despite the fact I was attached. I just never did anything with them for years, or their genes would be easy to find again.
The only thing I struggle with still is dragons over 5 or so years old and gen1s.
Most of the gen1s also look nice with a little effort, but I can't do it lol. And somehow, it seems like such a waste to exalt the older g2+s, especially since it's so hard to find older gem genes in colors I like anymore.

think about all the apparel and skins you'll get back into your hoard by selling em off.
also sell them for above fodder prices, so that they'll be less likely to be immediately exalted
