TOPIC | Ranked Prob. of Flights for New Ancient
Sorry if the thread title is confusing, but hello! This is a thread where I rank every flight by its likelihood to be the origin flight of the new Ancient dragon announced in silhouette form today. Edit: Updated a bit with new info! 1. Plague: This dragon's silhouette is tangled, asymmetrical, and overall just... a tad confusing to look at, as evidenced by the many theories about how many heads it has, where its wings stop and end, et cetera. All of these elements scream "Plague" to me. 2. Nature: While Plague seems to me the most obvious choice, the dragon could also be a wild, overgrown dragon, representing the chaos and unruliness of nature. There also seem to be feathers on one of the possible "heads," reminiscent of the Wildclaw breed. 3. Arcane: Maybe it's in-flight bias, but the unusual design of this breed reminds me somewhat of the unusual design of the Arcanist, using sharp angles and a twisting, almost squid-like tail. However, the tatters on the wings still seem to point toward Plague. Ah, well. Here's hoping! [s]4. Light: While none of the design elements scream "Light" to me, there are, of course, the Emperor dragons to consider--multi-headed dragons created using Imperials, who are Light-element dragons. While I know that this new breed is not the Emperor breed for obvious reasons, the multiple-heads connection is hard to ignore.[/s] Confirmed to not be Light! The developers are leaving Light and Wind for last, due to Light and Wind having two modern breeds apiece. [s]5. Wind: It reminds me a bit of the female Skydancer pose, so... that's all I have for this one.[/s] Confirmed to not be Wind! See explanation for Light. 4. Water or Lightning: These are elements that I just don't see in this silhouette in the slightest. But I could be wrong! Additionally, Aequorin confirmed that the Ancients coming out in BotE order up until this point was just a coincidence, so Lightning doesn't get a boost from that. 5. Earth: We just got the Obelisk, so this one's out. 6: Ice, Shadow, or Fire: You lot already got an Ancient! Scram! [s]BONUS. Plague-Nature: This is a popular guess based on the combined sharpness and stark outlines of one side and the soft, feathery look of the other half. While this dragon could be fascinating lore-wise, combining two flights would make a less versatile dragon for breeders. However, I still think it's a high possibility based on the outline of the creature. I'm not putting this one in the ranking itself, but I'd probably put it at the number 3 slot if I did.[/s] Aequorin has just confirmed that a Plague-Nature (or any other) hybrid is "not something you have to worry about," so that's off the table!

I'll be real, I think it'd be super disappointing for both Plague and Nature uf Staff went for a combined breed and thus stiffed both flights of one that's truly 'them'.

Lord knows there was plenty of blacklash over shared story back during BotE already.

Personally I'm guessing Plague because (well I'm biased BUT)

1. The original concept art of the Mirrors had them had two tails, four wings etc, hence the name. This was later reduced to having just double the number of eyes. The two tails and seemingly two heads go with it.

2. That wing looks A Lot like Plaguebringer's one

3. The claws and fluffy bits remind me a lot of beareded vultures, which would be a very Plague aesthetic to go with.

The silhouette looks nothing like a lightning breed, but every other ancient has been released in the order of the BotE stories. First was ice, then fire, then shadow. Assuming that the next ancient continues that pattern, it would be a lightning breed.
Design wise, it definitely looks more like a plague breed.

It's a vulture monster with tattered wings, gnarled claws, tangled tails, and fierce biting heads. It's gotta be plague for sure.

It better be plague >:( we tend to get the short end of the stick sometimes, and if it's a plague ancient it'll probably be up there with one of my favorite dragons.

@AllHailWebby hmm, good eye... but it looks so unlike Lightning that I can't help but hold onto Plague. We'll see in a few months, I guess!

Technically, light and wind are even lower on the probability list than water or lightning. Staff has explicitly confirmed they will be last in line for ancients because they have two moderns. Same with earth now (which is somewhat unfortunate, I was looking forward to whatever ancient might be lurking in their tunnels). I’m personally still holding out for lightning because desert vultures and reactor cores and bote order, but plague is a strong runner up. I just hope it’s not a plague/nature hybrid >_>

@FeatheredHibiscus Oooh, I didn't think about a vulture look, but you're totally right! Locking in Plague, I'm sure that this combined with the old Mirror fanart showing them with two tails can't be a coincidence.

@Lednik Ah, good to know. No Light or Wind, then.

It could also be elementless. Iirc that was stated as a possibility somewhere (although I can't seem to find it in the Ancient Breed announcement threads). Edit: Found it:
Many of these archaic creatures were crafted by the gods when they first began to vie for territory.
