TOPIC | Ancient Dragons Apparel?
Will Ancient Dragons ever be able to wear apparel? I know that making a new version of every clothing item would take ages, but Bogsneaks have it...

I know new site skins for the new breeds will be released in time, but I am tired of my ancients being nakey!

unfortunately not! they were made that way so staff can release dragons quicker, and ones with more unique features. bogsneaks have them because they were released way before the ancient dragon system!

No, the point of Ancient breeds is that they do not wear apparel (and don't have every gene) so new breeds come out faster. When Gaolers came in 2019 out it had been almost 3 years since the last new dragon breed (Bogsneaks). A big difference to the last year and a half with 3 new breeds. About a year ago this was the progress for the next modern breed they gave us so next apparel wearing breed might be soon-ish? the ancients unfortunately won't be getting apparel as the point of them is that staff not having to put apparel on them not only allows them to release breeds more often, but also allows them to do a few things that they just can't do with moderns! for example, linebreaking terts! stuff like wraith, diaphanous, and shardflank just aren't possible on moderns because the amount of linebreaking those terts do would just clip waaaay too much with the apparel they wear.

another thing that ancients not wearing apparel allows staff to do is break convention with the body shapes of the dragons. the thing about moderns is, since they all wear apparel, they have to follow a standard body shape so that all apparel will be drawn somewhat the same on them; for example, a two headed dragon would need any head piece drawn on them twice, but a dragon without arms and legs would not be able to wear any arm or leg apparel. so, all modern dragons have to follow the convention of 1 head, 2 wings, 4 limbs. as ancients don't wear apparel, they don't necessarily have to follow that rule! it doesn't mean they're guaranteed to break it (gaolers and veilspun certainly don't), but we wouldn't have banescale if ancients wore clothes, as they were the very first (and currently only) breed to break the body type convention.

as for bogsneaks? they're able to wear apparel because they are modern breeds, not ancient breeds. there is another modern breed in the works, but we don't know when it's coming. with the amount of apparel there is on the site, making new modern breeds does take a while; which is why ancients were created as a way for us to still have new breeds relatively often.
