He took a hesitant step out, and with unsure steps went as far as he’d been asked to go.
“Hmmmm,” he thought, “I can’t really see anything. I’m small, maybe if I use my wings I can see better. I don’t hear them in my head anymore. I should check on them.”
After he flapped his small wings, he sent out a silent call, “Hello? Are you still there? Are you okay?”
Nothing.
Then he got back. “Yes! Yes! I am still here! I thought you left. I can’t believe you can hear me. “
“Yes, I can hear you, but I don’t know where you are. Samaria said I can’t leave our courtyard.”
The voice replied, “I need your help! My babies are stuck, and I can’t reach them! Please help me!”
Thinking quickly, Adwen said, “Why don’t you come to me, and then I can get help! I bet that would work.”
Silence.
“Hello?,” said Adwen.
“I’m here. You want me to come to a lair of dragons? I don’t know.”
“Yes,” exclaimed Adwen, “I promise nothing bad will happen! I’ll tell you how to get here.”
Adwen landed back on the ground, and sent silently guided the mysterious voice to his lair. While he waited, he went back inside to explain to Samaria what has transpired.
“What do you mean when you say you told them to come here? How did you do that when I said for you to stay very close,” Samaria said.
“In my head! I promise I listened! I can hear others in my head when I listen hard enough!”
Before his clan leader could reply Adwen heard the voice in his head again, “I-I-I’m here.”
Adwen quickly went back to the courtyard and saw a familiar at the entrance to their lair.
“You’re here! You’re real!”, he laughed, “and you’re small!”
The familiar had a nervous laugh back. “Yes, that I am. I also need your help. My babies fell down this deep hole, and I’m too small to get them and climb back up. Can you help me?”
Adwen turned to look back at his clan leader with pleading eyes, “Please? We have to help! She said her babies are stuck in a hole.”
Samaria was still shocked at the revelation that Adwen was not having one sided conversations, but in fact talking to animals. This child must have been touched by the Lightweaver to have been given such a rare and useful gift.
Without another thought, Samaria told them to lead the way.
And so, it became Adwen’s first, but definitely not last, adventure.[/quote]
