When a Pearlcatcher's breed is changed to something else, where does its pearl go? Surely it's not part of the dragon's body?

Just out of curiosity, why aren't the Baku/Dreameater enemies animated in the Bamboo Falls? Everything else has something that moves, but not those two. I've always found it a bit disorienting, since I'd have thought the glowing balls of energy around them would have at least been floating around, but even they're perfectly still...
