I'm going to third what Candor and scribblingface said. Nobody else in my house plays yet, but it concerns me a lot that I've heard so many stories about people being banned for multiaccounting just because they were on the same IP as another player in their house or apartment block, or sometimes for no reason they can figure out. Accidental bans are one thing, but I haven't heard of anyone successfully appealing a ban. It's just not ok that players have to live in fear of banning if they play with family members and give them too big of an item or too many.
I'm also a little unclear on the answer given about how you detect botters. It seemed to imply that the way you tell is how long someone has been on coli, which makes me nervous about grinding. It also seems like a strange way to detect it, since I know several people who are perhaps a little too obsessive and grind for extremely long periods at a time, especially during holidays. If that is, in fact, how botting is determined, how long is that span? I enjoy FR, follow the rules, and want to keep my dragons, but the sheer number of stories I hear about wrongful bans (even taken with a grain of salt) makes me paranoid and worried that I might get in trouble for nothing without much recourse.
This is what's really annoying me about FR right now, especially with how the admins are saying one thing, and doing another. As if we're not hearing and seeing their behavior off site and hearing from people who are being unfairly targeted and punished for things they didn't do. I've never heard or seen a single person successfully appeal a ban (usually they get told to just make another account, which is rude as hell), and it seems there's a high rate of false positives AND rather than use any other kind of sanction (a probation, warning, or something similar) they just seem to ban people.
I sincerely doubt we're going to get a response or people who got banned by mistake will get an apology.

When the typo in Plague ancient lair will be fixed? It shows as Wyrm
wood, even if it's supposed to be Wyrm
wound.
This has been already reported in the Bugs thread and the typo-thread for many times.

I'm almost positive that this doesn't set off their bot alarms - I do it all the time, and I've even fallen asleep with the Coli up more than once. =P It probably has to actively ping back to their servers to be noticed.

Nequam Oh boy I hope you're right. Then again I haven't had trouble yet! But I'm more concerned about Riot of Rot, ha. Ugh. I wish the admins gave people warnings or something first. Not even a three strike but at least ONE warning.

Most bot detection software measures your activity and the speeds and rates at which you interact with the site and determines whether or not it is non-human. They also check for anything that is altering or manipulating code. Leaving inactive tabs open should not register as a warning flag and if it did i would have been banned a long time ago along with many others lol. I almost always have a flight rising tab open in the background.
FR Staff really needs to be more active in this thread, I feel like the sites really falling apart right now and the lack of involvement has really been making it worse. I really wish we could get a more through public statement on everything that has been going on lately. When I started to see the effects that usually stem from botting and found it was true, i was expecting a public statement regarding the matter.
If staff is too busy with rendering content like genes and breeds to take care of the community, then i think those things should be put on a hiatus. I would rather have a healthy site with a happy community than one with a lot of features, but no community.

LucaLoo Good to know! My reflexes aren't near what they'd have to be to register as being a bot. I should be good then! I hope!
And yes they really need to make some kind of statement. One of the chats I'm in got concerned to the point that they were logging out of the Coli and resorted to just gathering shards.

This news is quite a concern, especially since I often share my computer with my daughter (she loves and plays FR with her own account). We used to trade items and dragons back and forth in the past and I'm the only one who can buy and send her gems when she wants them. This trading has now become a very rare occurrence as paranoia often sets in and it would crush us both if were banned for just giving each other things every now and then.
Plus the hours I play are wildly sporadic due to several health issues (Insomnia being among them). There are times when I'm only on a couple hours a day at night or morn, then others where I can be playing anywhere from 1am - 8am straight... especially during festivals. x__x

Yeah, my SO knows a decent amount about programming and has been involved with neopets for a really long time and botting is a big issue there so I learned a lot about these things from him :P. There are always mistakes when these sorts of things happen, but just let your friends know that there should be no issue with them resuming their normal coli activity! My only suggestion to bring risks to a minimum is if one is going to be playing in the coli frequently, they should keep trades with friends to a minimum etc. or vice versa. I guess try to do only one potentially suspicious activity at a time lol.
This really is scary though, at my house we have like 5 accounts (my and my SO got everyone playing lol.) and if there were to be any mistake here, it would be pretty devastating.

Thanks for the reply! I'm glad to see that security/privacy measures are not taken as a reason for action against accounts.
