TOPIC | [Update, April 23] Theme Week
Theme Week will resume with the Wavecrest Saturnalia on the first business day of the festival, April 28, 2025.

Hey everyone, now that I've had some sleep and coffee, I wanted to touch base again on this week's theme. As a note, I can only speak to Theme Week, why the theme was chosen, and why the thread was removed.

Why was the theme chosen? You may have noticed we've been experimenting with cross-fandom community interactions recently. It's something players enjoy across all genres in the industry, especially when it involves the intersection of franchises that initially released during our formative years, both childhood and early adulthood. When the announcement dropped, it seemed like an opportunity to continue this experiment.

Why was the thread removed? Typically when a thread goes off-topic or is focused on issues relating to current events and human rights, we lock the thread as to not create the perception of erasure. This week's thread was removed in full after we received feedback that stated we support genocide, and included requirements that we had to comply with as a business to prove otherwise. These requirements are not something I could address after-hours or unilaterally in my capacity as Community Manager.

Between the discussion of current events, the claims made via ticket, and the time, a call had to be made. The thread was removed out of an abundance of caution. The dragons that were chosen for this week's spotlight will be in the spotlight section of next week's Wavecrest Saturnalia thread.

The original version of this update post was an attempt to explain why the theme was chosen and why it was removed. It wasn't my best work, and I am sorry for any confusion or concerns raised as a result of my hasty messaging.

Dragon Share Theme Week is supposed to be a light and low impact community event, where players can share interests and dragons. This experiment had the opposite effect. Trying a clear cross-fandom theme with Theme Week was a mistake and shouldn't have happened. Going forward, we will not include specific cross-fandom themes in Theme Week.

As a reminder for everyone, posting or linking to support of fascism or genocide is not, and has not been, allowed on our site.

If you disagree with the decision to pull the theme, or feel upset by this decision, that's okay. What's not okay is to refer to this as 'drama'. Please don't do that. Thank you.

The fandom crossover theme week was intended to be a celebration of a series that was fundamental for many on the team and in our community. Some can even say that this franchise had a profound impact on their life for the better. However, as discussion within the thread became about current events, we have removed this week's Dragon Share Theme Week.

Our apologies for the change of plans, and thank you for understanding.
