Awakened Rivers: Introduction
Guardian dragons; a creation of the Tidelord; when coming of age will often travel, seeking to dedicate themselves to a purpose. This can be a worthy individual, cause, or a particular physical location. It must be something that that particular Dragon finds worthy enough and important enough to dedicate the remainder of their life to.
A Guardian named Ddu chose as his life’s work and dedication to seek the lost prophecies and esoterica of the Tidelord. He did not confine his explorations to the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Inspiration and perhaps luck led him to the Everbloom Gardens, where he found that the seemingly shallow pools when more fully explored proved to have hidden deeps, where secrets and millennia old lost lore and arcana were to be found. Ddu was able to confirm the existence of many long lost occult energies and items.
In the midst of this early confirmation of his theories and preparations to make additional explorations, the diverse lair that he had joined rescued several hapless foundlings. This included three Undertide hatchlings. He was at this time the only individual in the lair with the experience appropriate to nurture them and they came to call him "father". With the strong impulse that Undertides have to stay close to family, they followed him everywhere, including to the depths where he discovered a cache of powerful prophecies and magic.
A note about Undertide dragons and their history: Undertide Dragons were the first creation of the Tidelord, but after the birth of the Guardian species, many of them abandoned and rejected the Tidelord, feeling they had been replaced or somehow disdained.
Many consider themselves somehow in exile; which is an interesting representation of the collective Undertide rejection of their originating Deity. Most Undertide dragons are well able to get along with the deepwater beast clans, especially the Maren. They are quite family oriented and prefer to nest together.
The Awakened Rivers linage starts with these three who had joined him with the fearless abandon of the hatchlings they were. Exposed to the ancient energies that Ddu was rediscovering, they were impacted, and slightly changed. The changes appear subtle and not harmful. Among other things, while not being completely returned to allegiance to the Tidelord, the innate rejection that most Undertides cultivate is found much less in these three and in their descendants.
Still, Ddu was careful to shield later Undertide hatchlings from the arcane energies, so despite the increasingly large size of his family of Undertide adoptees, the Awakened Rivers liniage goes back only to his original three adoptees. He himself was not impacted, nor were any of his actual hatchlings.
