son of tamlin

once lovely, the manor in the deep woods has fallen into disrepair. untended, weeds choke the plants in the garden, hindering their growth, and the grass is dry and weeping; a far cry from the lush green it had been years ago. there are flowers and vines creeping up the stone walls, but the same walls are cracked and aged, weathered from rain and sunlight.

they say the manor is impossible to salvage. they say that it will fall apart in the near future. they say there is no hope.

he disagrees.

what they do not see is the abundance of wildlife the surrounding forest hides - rabbits, birds, beasts. they do not see the young prince of spring frolicking near the lake, casting sad glances at the manor he inherited. they do not see the hope in his heart, the hope that one day his father will rest in peace, for the manor is magicked to directly reflect his soul. his father's soul is still wrought with grief and guilt, and accordingly, the manor is still wrought with decay and damage.

his father died years ago, sad and alone. the prince of spring had never seen the manor as it had been described by poets and authors: full of splendor and grace, a beautiful house brimming with flowers and joy. when he'd been born, his father had already been engulfed by sorrow.

he hopes to see the manor repaired one day. there is no therapy in the afterlife, but he knows time is therapy in itself. and so when they say there is no hope left, he disagrees. every day, he leaves the manor and frolics by the lake, gazing wistfully at the run-down structure with the birds that he befriended twittering their comfort, perched on his antlers.

the prince of spring has hope in his heart. he believes that one day his late father will overcome his terrible sadness, just as spring overcomes even the most terrible of winters. because who else will hope, if not he?
