Mertisal - 99% of me doing outfits is randomly throwing one skin and one apparel at a derg and seeing if it sticks until I run out of apparel or somebody tells me they like how simple and well-thought-out that outfit is, lol.
I've got an entirety of T W O dragons that have actual, properly planned outfits, and those are both works in progress.
Here's some examples of me completely winging it:
"Oh god he's fugly what was younger!Guardy thinking???" > "HEY a skin to cover up that horrid secondary just came out!" > "Huh, a new apparel, let's put it on every green derg in my lair, maybe it'll look nice" > "Rosebud? Roses have thorns, right? I've got thorns, so let's add thorns!"
"This zombie skin makes her wings look cool, let's just throw every creepy piece of apparel I own at her. Yep, perfect."
"I just got this skin which looks neat with her colors and this apparel mirrors the dangly aesthetic so I'll just put those together and call it a day"
100% me going "HEY, this skin/apparel I just got matches her colors!"
"If I have to look at his actual colors one more time, I am going to
scream because he's my dang coliseum derg, so I'll just throw everything with vaguely the right colors on there and hope it works out"
"I just hatched this derg and I love her, but I don't know what to do with her. Oh, new festival stuff? Sure, why not."
"No, I'm not broke and out of apparel, it's MINIMALISM!"
(I will say, though, that having pretty consistent favorite colors for both dragons and apparel helps with the color coordination)
