Despite an ongoing breeding and geneing project, I've suddenly decided that I'd like to try to get a dragon like Maleficent, from Disney's "Sleeping Beauty" (1959).
My first dilemma is her secondary color. In the movie, it doesn't seem quite consistent, like varying between a brownish gold color, and maybe sometimes thistle, but usually seems much darker with a hint of brown. Because of that, I was thinking of going with Slate, but if you find something better, let me know!
The primary problems are what breed I will use, and whether or not I use genes. She looks most like the movie with Basic primary and secondary, and an Underbelly tert. However, I just don't want to have a basic dragon XD haha. So should I sacrifice the accuracy of the dragon to give it genes?
Breed-wise, I'm stuck between Guardian, Ridgeback, or Nocturne.

I think some Windbound Plumage would really complete her! ;D
Anyways, if you have any ideas on what Primary and Secondary genes I can use and still retain her look, or which breed you think I should use, let me know!

This is my version of Maleficent . I didnt really go according to movie, more so than I did personality.
I think if you wanted to go by her appearance, the shimmering and iri genes would work best since in both movies she appears in she's a fallen fairy/witch gone bad. I cant really say I'm fond of the brown coloring, but without having a crystal clear version of the movie you cant be sure the coloration. I'd say go for more of a brownish gold, as the one you currently have appears far to dull for Melef anyways.
As for breed, I'd vote for Nocturne in all honestly.

@Sassgardian
IriShim looks a bit weird on most of them, but actually doesn't look bad on the Noc! It also adds a bit of the gold tint that Basic was lacking.

Brown makes it a bit brighter without making it outright yellow... hmm, I can't decide! But the IriShim does work!

Thanks for your input! :D

@Flurry Her wings are actually transparent in the 1959 film!

I think goldenrod or stone might work for her secondary rather than thistle.

@Clarinetosaurus
That's why it changed so much! XD I haven't seen the film in years, haha. Stone might work! I think it does help the transparent look. Maybe I can even find an accent that makes the wings look transparent! ;D

I absolutely think Ridgeback looks the best for her. The spikes on the ridgebacks look great for all her neck and hip spines.
Her wings are kinda see-through so they're always whatever color is behind them. and since the whole scene with the prince is on fire, they're sort of a warmer color. I'm personally a fan of the unlit art where her wings are black.
But I think straight up Obs/Obs would be away too dark. I think Black is too much too. Maybe Obs/Coal? Coal seems to be a bit warmer than grey, so that'd give you that brownish tint from the in-movie screenshots.
(edit): Maybe one like this?:

Also sorry for being really long winded :P

@Endi That's not long-winded at all! :) I actually originally considered using coal, but wondered if it was a bit too dark, which is why I went to slate! ^.^
Coal does actually look nice, too! Man, now I'm still torn with the secondaries, haha XD

I think I am stuck between Ridgie and Guardian for the breed. Ridgie looks better with Coal Secondary, and Guardian looks better with Charcoal or Slate Secondary. Hmm...

@Flurry: I didn't even think of Slate as a secondary... that's a great looking color too :O I'm personally still partial to Ridgie, and I sorta like her with no primary (she's kinda flat black in the movie anyway). But the shimmer on the wings looks really good o.o

I can't wait to see what you come up with c: I love making character dragons and there's always so many choices!

Hands down, the best Maleficent I've ever seen on this site belongs to @Morbid :)

She would probably look great with a black-range secondary though too! I'd lean towards obs, but then again, I'm a fan of dark dragons. ;)

Endi I think you're right... I'm not a fan of Basic dragons... but the Basic primary looks so much more genuine for her. I was thinking Iridescent as, of any of the non-basic genes, it matches her best like @
Sassgardian said, and I think I agree with her. That way I would be constantly irked by having a non-gened dragon in my lair. But I think it also depends on what breed I go with, as Iri looks more noticeable on some breeds than others!
@
Faileas That Maleficent is lovely! The accent there is perfect for her ^.^ I am trying to go for darker wings like you say, but not quite so dark, as I want them to look a little transparent perhaps, like in the movie :) That purple looks very vibrant and nice, though!
