Anthony looked down nervously. “D-Donovan came here before the fight, he s-said they were going to get revenge on everyone who treated them wrong. He asked m-me if I wanted in a-a-and I said yes!” Anthony shouted hysterically. Carmilla huffed and crossed her arms, and Anthony flinched. “Look, I heard you loud and clear during the fight. You said you didn't know the full plan, and you almost died to try and save the kids, for the love of the Eleven! That makes you alright in my book,” Carmilla said, and Anthony looked baffled. “B-But I had the chance to tell everyone else about the plot, a-and I didn't! If I wasn't such a coward, he might not have died!” Anthony cried with tears rolling down his face. “We all have regrets, yea, but you can't let that ruin your life!” Carmilla said harshly as she shook her head. “Bah! I didn't come here to be mushy, with everything that happened, They got away! You didn't happen to see how they escaped, did you?” Carmilla asked, and Anthony shook his head. Carmilla swore as she walked over to the window at the back of the room. She pulled back the curtain and frowned. “It's open, why?” She muttered to herself, and Anthony frowned. “It wasn't unlocked before! Adrian is very particular about keeping the windows shut… Oh!” Anthony said, and Carmilla grinned. “Bingo, they must have jumped when they had the chance to escape! Damn cowards!” Carmilla exclaimed, and Anthony frowned. “Where do you think they went?” Carmilla huffed as she closed the window. “They're probably off scheming right now. If the circumstances were different I'd go after them now, but I have the feeling they're lying in wait. The funeral is tomorrow, and what better time to attack then then?” Carmilla hissed, and Anthony nodded with a scowl. “Yes, I was worried they might try to attack during the ceremony. I assume you have a plan?” Adrian said as he too entered the room. Carmilla nodded, and Adrian looked relieved. “Very good then, with Master Faron being in the state he is currently in… Well, I for one, feel relieved,” Adrian said politely before turning towards Anthony with a scowl. “You risked your life to save my son, you have both my trust and gratitude. Now then, if you would follow me to your new room? I’ve prepared some clothes for you, no one with my face is to dress in rags,” Adrian said as he helped Anthony up from the floor. Corvo rolled his eyes and scoffed. “Are you seriously going to go out looking like that? All three of you?!” Corvo said with a scowl as he gestured to Adrian, Anthony, and Benji. “I beg your pardon?!” Adrian said stiffly, and Corvo rolled his eyes again. “Look, I can't make Mari or myself look normal, but you three… ugh, just wait here,” Corvo said before he left the room. Everyone looked around at each other in bewilderment, save for Faron who was just staring at Lanayru's casket with hollow eyes. Corvo came back into the room a few minutes later holding a worn and large case. He set it up on a table and opened the latches, and a moment later pulled out a few tubes and brushes from the interior of the case. Corvo gestured for Adrian to come over to him, and the butler hesitantly walked over. “I don't have much time, but anything will be better than nothing…” Corvo muttered to himself as applied makeup to Adrian’s face in an attempt to make him look alive. After a short time he finished, and looked rather pleased with himself. “Corvo?! How didja know how to do that?! If I didn't know better, I'd woulda thought he was alive!” Eldin exclaimed in shock, and Corvo gave him a smug look. “How did you think I was so good at disguises? But withhold your praise until I finish with him,” he said as he gestured to Benji. Corvo had just finished making Benji look passable for a normal skydancer when they heard the sound of nearby carriages. “Good, now hopefully no one at the church will make a big fuss,” Corvo said with satisfaction as Adrian went to answer the door. A few moments later, the butler returned to the living room. “It is time,” he said as he took his place beside the casket, and was quickly joined by the rest of the adults in the house. They solemnly carried the casket out of the house and gently placed it inside the ornate white carriage in front of the procession. The family filled up the remaining two carriages; and just as they started traveling to the church, cold rain started to fall. Faron looked out of the window and sighed as they bounced along the road. Mari winced at every bump, and Eldin looked at Faron with sympathetic eyes. Eldin took Faron’s hand into his own, and Faron turned to look at Eldin with distant and hollow eyes. Eldin held his hand tighter as if to say “I'm here for you, things will be okay,” and Faron turned back towards the window and watched the rain roll down the glass, rendering the outside view a dull blur. After what felt like an eternity, they arrived at the church. The priest that welcomed them had an odd expression when he saw the party, but whatever he was thinking he kept it to himself as he led them to the main hall for the ceremony. A choir began to sing an ancient hymn as the rain came down harder. Faron looked up at the large stained glass window depicting the Shadowbinder and started to cry. “Why couldn't it have been me instead?!” Faron thought; hardly noticing that the choir had finished singing, and that the priest had started to speak. The grieving knight wasn't listening to what the priest had to say, as he was too lost in his grief to pay attention. He vaguely was aware of Eldin's arms wrapped around him, but the only thing Faron could focus on was his son's casket. The choir had started singing at some point, Faron wasn't sure when. Ever since Lanayru had died, time became an illusion to Faron. Seeing Corvo walking past Faron, carrying Mari broke Faron out of his thoughts for a moment. He took his daughter up to the podium, and Mari cleared her throat. “Lanayru was my brother, and despite what he had done; no one could have found a more passionate, and talented dragon in these woods,” Mari paused for a moment, as if to collect her thoughts. “Yes, he wasn't perfect, but in the end he gave everything he had to save Faron, despite their nasty quarrel a few days prior. Lan died a hero's death; and while he will be greatly missed by us, he will certainly be welcomed into the afterlife with open arms, being hailed as the hero he is,” Mari concluded, and Faron bawled as she was escorted back to her seat. A different priest started to speak, but Faron was distracted once again. Something was about to happen, Faron could feel it. The knight tensed up in anticipation as his eyes swept across the hall. “What are ya gettin’ tense for?” Eldin whispered, and Faron frowned. “Something is very wrong,” Faron hissed. Eldin didn't say anything as he put his head on Faron's shoulder. Anthony got up to speak after the other priest was finished, and nervously made his way over to the podium and pulled out a few note cards from his pocket. The nocturne took a deep breath as he read over his cards. After a minute he cleared his throat. “I-I-I, U-U-Uh, I know I didn't k-k-know him as w-well as-” Anthony started to stammer out, before getting interrupted by the doors being thrown open. A flash of lightning illuminated the dimly lit chapel to reveal the silhouettes of none other than the late doctor Sabin, and his brutish assistant Donovan. Anthony screamed before fainting, quickly followed by the members of the church screaming and cowering in fear. The grieving family stood up in alarm, bracing themselves for a fight. He could feel that he was surrounded by roses, but he wasn't able to see anything. The skydancer groaned. “Where am I?!” He muttered as he continued to feel around. He started to panic as he realized he was unable to sit up or move his arms more than a few inches. “...You couldn't wait… wasn't bad enough that you killed… can't let me bury him in peace?!” Lan heard Faron roar, but most of the words were distorted and muffled. “Bury?! Oh Gods, don't tell me that I’M in a casket!” Lan thought as he heard muffled laughter and a loud bang nearby. Lan frantically tried to escape, and after a moment was able to free himself, sending both the lid and flowers flying everywhere. Lanayru was blinded by the brightness of the hall for a moment before he got out of the casket. “So it WAS a casket after all!” Lan thought as he looked around. His vision was very blurry, and he was quickly overwhelmed by the waves of fear, despair and rage that rolled over him. Strangely enough, Lan didn't just feel these emotions that weren't his own, but he was somehow able to see them. More troublesome than anything else, Lan noticed that Sabin was fighting Faron, and appeared to have the upper hand. “GET AWAY FROM MY FATHER!” Lan screamed as he made Sabin fly across the room and slam into a statue at the other end of the hall. Faron turned around in absolute shock, though his eyes were distant, almost if he was in a trance. “Lan? No, it can't be, this must be another dream!” Faron exclaimed, and Lan furrowed his brow. Sabin picked up his head that had just been knocked off his neck with wide eyes. “Impossible! You're supposed to be dead!” Sabin spat as he got up from the ground. “So are you, but I suppose we’re both too stubborn to die!” Lan hissed as he drew closer. “Unfortunately for you, I feel more alive than I ever had! Shall we see exactly what I'm capable of?!” Lan threatened with a manic grin as he drew closer. Sabin cowered in fear as he tried to scramble off, and Lan found great satisfaction in seeing the late doctor’s fear. Donovan broke out from underneath both Carmilla and Eldin and rushed over to Sabin and hoisted the undead skydancer’s body on his shoulder. He aimed a punch at Lan, but he was able to swiftly dodge the attack. Lan narrowed his eyes in a cocky manner, and didn't react fast enough to avoid the kick that sent him to his knees. By time Lan was able to get back on his feet, the undead duo made their escape out of a stained glass window. Lan huffed as he made a sharp movement with his hand, and quickly repaired the damage caused in the brawl. Lan looked down and blinked in shock as he looked at his hands, or rather, what should have been his hands. Vaguely hand-shaped mist replaced where his hands used to be. Before he had a chance to comprehend what was happening, he was enveloped in a warm hug from behind. “I don't care if this is another dream, so long as I can see you one last time!” Faron cried as tears streamed down his face.
