Tan stood atop the hill, war-horns blaring out in all directions. What stood behind him was his clan, a great battalion of warriors, hearts bleeding to save their homeland. But what stood in front of him was an army.
His armor weighed him down, and his sword which was sharpened to a point was strapped to his side. With a roar that shook the land he rose into the air, and lead the charge against the masses that lay before him.
A fog... a white mist surrounded him. His body felt heavy but his head felt light as a feather. As the mist in his mind cleared he noticed where he was - a medic tent. Sitting beside him were his two brothers, Jii and Rou.
Eyes growing wide, he tried to sit up but a shooting pain in his chest kept him down.
"What happened" he demanded, looking fiercely at his brothers.
With a cool gaze, Rou raised both of his paws in front of him, before bringing them to his chest in a sharp stabbing motion. Breaking out into a smirk, he replied
"You got shot. Nice job."
Tan scowled. He wasn't in a joking mood. Turing to the younger brother he asked Jii what had become of the battle.
"We won. Of course we won. We have all of us 3 together." Jii answered.
Grinning, Tan congratulated his brothers. Yes, of course they won. They were unstoppable together.
Rou raced along the line of soldiers, tapping each of their shields with the tip of his wing. The enemy would be here soon and it was vital this defense held.
After making sure there was no gap between the shields that lay across his dragons, he retreated behind the front line in anticipation. Then it came. Arrow raining down, louder than a thunderstorm. They pierced some shields, but with Rou's encouraging shouts steadying the soldier's hearts the defense held tight.
When the onslaught had ended, he ordered that the shields be moved so he could get out. Shooting out of the gap quick as a flash, he gave the signal to Tan that everything was OK. Now the real battle began.
Jii stood still and silent, as the flames from the dying fire danced across his painted mask. Around him angry voices were throwing accusations, everyone desperate to blame each other for what had happened.
As the voices died down and came to an agreement, one word was thrown around.
Knowing what was coming, Jii carefully placed his paw on the hilt of his sword. As eyes turned to him, they asked him how he didn't see the intruders come in, even though he was on guard. The silence that followed pressed in on everyone as their suspicions of the mysterious dragon in the painted mask grew.
A voice rose out from the crowd. "Take that mask off!" and a murmur of agreement spread throughout the unsettled dragons.
Dainty lifting up his paw, he slowly raised the mask from his face. In that moment, everyone was frozen in shock. But then the next moment was chaos.
Among shouts of "It's the prince!" and "Get him!", Jii flew, fought and scraped his way out of there, disappearing into the night. The only trace of him left was the mask, smashed and stomped into the dirt.
It had been a long mission, but it was worth it to tear town his enemy from the inside. Smirking, Jii made his way home. He couldn't wait to see his brothers again.
A doll is not made by throwing together random scraps of fabric until you have something that resembles a what you want. Every thread, every button, every stitch is chosen and made with care. Cotton would never let something on her dolls be out of place.
Some call it evil and wrong to give an object life, make it so it can feel pain and hurt even though it should just be a collection of 'stuff' that never knows sentience. But as Cotton makes her dolls, she sees that they are already alive. Already feeling and existing in this world. Giving it to her brother to actually perform the magic is only natural.
Cotton doesn't keep the dolls she makes. She is not lonely, as she has her brother. But she sees what loneliness does to others.
So if you ever feel you are one of those who needs love but cannot share it with others, maybe pay Cotton and Candy a visit. They may have just what you are looking for.
Candy spends weeks performing his magic, slowly pouring life into the dolls his sister lovingly, painstakingly created. This process takes time, and it has to be done in secret.
They come to life slowly. The first sign may be a twitch of the foot, or a winking eye, but eventually they will be bursting at the seams with life. And love.
It is said that a life made from magic is not the same as a life made naturally. But if a natural birth comes from love, then why should a magical life, also made from love, be worth any less. And Candy knew, much like his sister, that there are many dragons in this world whose birth did not come from love. So, surely, this way was better.
When Mafu was born, his parents were delighted. It had been a long time since there had been a dragon with bee wings in the family. He was always praised and paraded around town.
But the light his parents threw on him cast a dark shadow on his siblings, whose jealousy grew in that darkness. Excluded and cast out, he felt unwanted even by those of the same blood as him. And he hadn't even done anything wrong.
Siblings should love each other. Unconditionally. This isn't fair. But rather than be upset or angry, Mafu was just intrigued how something like this could happen. So he studied it.
Even now he studies the strange bond that is brotherly and sisterly love. He even thinks he may know how to fix it, if something happens to prevent that love from forming. And he is determined to make his siblings love him again.
Huffing and heaving, flapping his half developed wings as hard as he could, Niku managed to pull himself into the air. There he stayed for a few seconds before falling back to the ground.
"How was that!" He beamed to his siblings, puffing his chest out in pride. Shimi's eyes gleamed in awe at how he could already fly even though he wasn't nearly fully grown. Mafu, on the other hand, simply clapped his paws together politely.
This ticked Niku off. Why wasn't he more impressed. As if in response to Niku's angry glare, Mafu meekly stated that he could already fly too. Niku's blood ran cold.
Again. How come Mafu beat him again.
"I don't believe you" He spat out. "If you can fly then fly up that cliff" he said, pointing a wing towards the huge cliffside towering at the edge of the plain.
With a sudden resolution in his eyes, Mafu accepted and started making his way to the cliff. With a graceful leap he rose into the air and made his ascent.
With his heart seized by jealously once again, Niku grabbed Shimi's paw. Started she asked Niku what he was doing.
"It will take him ages to get up there, I'm sure he'll fall down loads. Let's go play somewhere else." he muttered, and dragged Shimi towards the den.
When Mafu reached the top of the cliff, he looked down expecting to see his siblings smiling faces. Instead he saw nothing. Dejected, he glided back down and went off on his own. Niku, watching this, for some reason felt happy inside. Serves him right.
When Shimi woke up, the other side of the bed was cold. She reached out, searching for her brother's warmth but found nothing. That was weird.
Turning over, she was reassured as she saw her other brother, Niku, slowly breathing in and out in the corner of the room. But something was definitely off.
Rousing Niku, she attempted to explain the situation. Strangely though, he didn't seem to care.
"I'm serious, I think he left for real this time." she worried.
Niku just stared at her with a disgruntled face. "So what." he replied.
Still anxious, she went over to where Mafu usually slept seraching for a clue. And she found it. A letter, carefully written and laid out for them to find. As she read it tears filled her eyes.
"Niku! Look, see! He really did leave. He says he's not coming back until he's more mature." she wailed.
Niku's cold eyes stared at her. For a while there was silence. But as Niku opened his mouth to speak, Shimi cut him off. "OH NOT THIS TIME!" she wailed. "I don't want him to go!"
Drawing closer, Niku drew his wing around Shimi's shaking shoulder and comforted her. She never really understood her brothers, but she loved them. This was too painful to bear.

Tan, Rou and Jii
Tan
Tan, the first born
Tan was appointed the role of lion on his birth. He was to be the leader of the clan, to be fearless, strong and fair. The land he was appointed was targeted by friend and foe alike, and he had to step up to the role in order to keep him and his people safe. |
Tan stood atop the hill, war-horns blaring out in all directions. What stood behind him was his clan, a great battalion of warriors, hearts bleeding to save their homeland. But what stood in front of him was an army.

Grinning, Tan congratulated his brothers. Yes, of course they won. They were unstoppable together.
Rou
Rou, the second born
Rou was appointed the role of boar on his birth. The protector. Rou was never to lead an attack or seek out conflict, but instead to counter it if it came to him. |

Jii
Jii, the third born
Jii was appointed the role of hawk on his birth. He was to be the watchful ears and eyes of the clan. If anything were to happen he should be the first to hear and come up with a counter plan to stop anything worse from occurring. |
As the voices died down and came to an agreement, one word was thrown around.
'Traitor'
Knowing what was coming, Jii carefully placed his paw on the hilt of his sword. As eyes turned to him, they asked him how he didn't see the intruders come in, even though he was on guard. The silence that followed pressed in on everyone as their suspicions of the mysterious dragon in the painted mask grew.

Cotton and Candy
Cotton
A dragon's heart can break from loneliness. Everyone needs someone to love them. However not every dragon is suited to being with another. Some are meant to walk this world alone. But that doesn't mean you can't still have love. You just have to have the love without the dragon part... |
A doll is not made by throwing together random scraps of fabric until you have something that resembles a what you want. Every thread, every button, every stitch is chosen and made with care. Cotton would never let something on her dolls be out of place.

Candy
It is not easy to make a dragon fall in love. But it is only natural to want someone to fall in love with you. So Candy thought. What if instead of imbuing a soul with love, you imbue love with a soul. |
And love.

Mafu, Niki and Shimi
Mafu
No love can cause a dragon great pain and hurt. But too much of it can have the same effect. The love that Mafu attracted also pulled in many dark things into his life as well. He always thought it wasn't fair. So he decided to fix it. |

Niki
Niku wanders sometimes why his brother left. Was it his fault, how he treated him. But thinking that it too painful, so instead he focuses on the sibling that stuck by his side instead. |

Shimi
Shimi loves both her brother equally. She doesn't understand why they don't feel the same way. |
When Shimi woke up, the other side of the bed was cold. She reached out, searching for her brother's warmth but found nothing. That was weird.
Turning over, she was reassured as she saw her other brother, Niku, slowly breathing in and out in the corner of the room. But something was definitely off.
