I can't decide whether the hat works or not, as I just tried it out now as I did like your examples with apparel visible, and he only had a tail bow. Happy to go with or without the hat depending on your judgement on what looks better!

@AshWolf143 - Hard to say, I haven't done pixel icons on humans for a long time. And I earlier put the cap on two, but I later on lifted it into three.
