Oh I get that, haha. I don't have a maximum sized lair yet (but it is ancient) but I sit easily on around 2-3k converted food and find that I can top up pretty much just by using the repeatable achievements, so I'm not really doing it very often? (I'll usually go over the achieve when I do convert.) That's great it works for you though! Makes sense if you do like just throwing everything in all at once and then forgetting about it for ages.

I currently have 570 plants in my food stores, and the achievement is at 71% completion. Screenshot:

Regardless of developer intent, the achievement seems to be working as total food stores over time right now.
