When moonlit lanterns move through the night...
When wisps of magic flit out of sight... The darkness of the deadly blight... Will be no more to this mystic light. A small Nocturne, tears in her aqua eyes, carefully moved some cracked shells and bones into a pile as the forest moved around her. Her voice crept from her mouth, the sound of an adult dragoness wheezing. "Little one, little one, you shall be the last... Little one, little one, teach others of our past... Little one, little one, share our stories vast... Little one, little one, you must be steadfast." She blinked, closing her jaws. She quietly returned to her work. The pile grew ever larger, scarily so, until it was taller than the child was long. Bones upon bones, scales and fur, claws and fangs. Glowing mushrooms, picked from the ground and dropped gently around the hill, slowly lost their shimmer in the fading moonlight.

The little Nocturne stopped in her tracks. She lightly picked up a single large skull and held it tightly against her body, sobbing for what was lost. The mushroom plague had not killed her... but it had destroyed her family, her clan. Spores grew within her, but she was immune. Unaffected. Alive. Instead of suffocating her and eating her like they had the others, they emitted a soft glow, growing brighter or dimming depending on her emotions.
And now, they were bright as the sun, turning the surrounding area blue in the light. The Nocturne curled her fragile body around the skull, crying with her eyes shut tight. In her mother's dying voice, she spoke a few final words. "My child, my child, do not fear our death... You shall live with my dying breath."
