Quote:
Carved into a secluded cliff on the outskirts of the Sunbeam Ruins lies the entrance to a forgotten crumbling temple. The temple within is dark and vacant. Should you choose to proceed into the shadow-cloaked hallways, you'd find yourself walking for what feels like an eternity until you seem to approach the innermost sanctum, where you see a faint golden glow that grows brighter and brighter as you approach. But instead of where the inner sanctum should be, the doorway drops off into the depths of a large cavern. The bright glow comes from twisting rivers of light leading to what looks like a webbed core made of pure light that illuminates the whole cavern. This is where curious dragons go mad, addicted to their beautiful Forbidden Light.
The effects of the Forbidden Light are not immediately obvious but its touch is cancerous in nature. After years of exposure to the Light, the color of your scales change and your sight is altered, reflecting the environment within the cavern. But should you stay too long, your mind will slowly be lost before your body dies and becomes host for the Forbidden Light's whims. Those possessed by the Light will react with hostility and bloodthirst towards anyone intruding into their temple. The Forbidden Sentinels exist to keep the possessed at bay and prevent anyone else from becoming exposed to the Forbidden Light. All must be balanced carefully and after several years of service, veterans must retire, lest they too become possessed. Body altered and sight warped, veterans must depart and never return to the Temple of Forbidden Light.
