Those who knew him when he was younger like to say he came out of the egg fighting. Brash and headstrong in his youth, Lychnus could often be found chasing small animals and wrestling with his fellow hatchlings. He knew without a doubt that being a warrior was his chosen path. He trained for years to become one of the top fighters within his clan. He had a reputation for beating any beastclan member that was unlucky enough to target him. Then one day, he lost.

A squadron of him and his fellow warriors decided they didn't like that a band of Serthis had taken up residence in some ruins a few miles from their home. Ignoring orders from the elders to stay away, Lychnus and a group of like-minded warriors snuck out to clear the new den. They were too busy planning their surprise attack that they failed to remember that Serthis groups are not prone to traveling. While they expected a small family group, they were instead met with a Beastclan warparty, on it's way to aid another party under attack. The Coatl warriors were severely outnumbered, and only 3 from their original group of 9 survived.

While attempting to escape, Lychnus's throat was slashed with a poisoned blade, and he and his remaining friends managed to make it back to their lair before he collapsed. For several weeks he slipped in and out of consciousness, the poison ravaging his system and barely being fended off. When he finally awoke long enough to be informed of his situation, he found he could no longer speak. The poison from his throat wound had left so much scarring that his vocal chords were useless. The resident healer proclaimed that it was a miracle he could breathe, but Lychnus became despondent.

Weak from his ordeal, not able to speak, and unable to breathe properly, his warrior status was removed and Lychnus was assigned to the role of advisor. It was his new duty to coach up-and-coming leaders on battle strategies, negotiations, and clan life. Lychnus hated it with a burning passion. He wasn't suited to scholarly studies and gentle counseling. He couldn't even speak to give sagely advice. Lychnus had given up hope of fitting into clan life, until he got a new assignment. As he was briefed on his new charge, he noticed something familiar: headstrong, brash, prone to fighting, natural warrior leader. Feign was everything he used to be and wanted to be.

The two hit it off extremely well and Feign, though only younger by 2 years, had heard stories of the fights he'd been in and was eager to work with him. It came as a surprise to absolutely no one when the two announced that they were mates.
