Invidia stepped forward, slipping into the shadow of the bane's wings. She stretched her wings out, hissing as her scales touched the sun. When she was a hatchling, she was free to go wherever she pleased, whenever she wanted to. She forgot, things weren't like that anymore.

As a hatchling, a freak accident had her in with a doctor for months. She didn't remember getting there. She didn't remember waking up. But she remembered the time after.

And everything was a little... duller.

She began having trouble with colors, discerning between all the different shades of violet she used to love. She couldn't walk right, and she certainly couldn't fly. But what she missed the most?

Getting to close her eyes and let the sunlight warm her cold, quiet heart.
