After numerous reports from scared dragons waking up at night to the startling sight of glowing red eyes observing them in the darkness, a squirming angry Guardian hatchling was pulled out from the burrows. Already around 3 meters long and a little under a ton heavy, even Titan had a difficult time holding onto him. It was assumed that he had gone on a search for something to guard on a dare from an older hatchling, had lost his trail and had simply wandered into the first and best lair he could find, and after a futile search for his original clan, Neige allowed him to stay.
It was because of this first impression he got his name.

In terms of skills and to no one's surprise, Ruby proved himself as an excellent rogue. Gathering intelligence, infiltration, getting a tactical advance in combat all just seemed like a game to him, and one he enjoyed immensely. He has been a great help to Titan, and thereby the entire clan, both for his talents and due to the fact that most enemies find him intimidating. Upon reaching adulthood, he was given a rank of similar importance as Titan, and the opportunity to make his pilgrimage if he so wished. He has yet to begin it, but he claims that he is rather content where he is - he takes pride in his profession, is quite aware of his importance and enjoys guarding the clan.

Despite of his secretive profession, Ruby is a relatively straightforward character. Initially, many were wary of him; his Obsidian scales were quite a contrast to the otherwise flashy bright colours normally seen in the lair, but the many stories about his heroic deeds in the name of the clan helped convincing most of the dragons of his good intentions.
Scrum also saw the potential in the young Guardian, and for a while Ruby looked up to Scrum for being a grown experienced Guardian, but he now greatly detests Scrum for his cowardice and selfishness. He has great respect for Neige in her function as a leader, and is especially good friends with Titan and Orca.

Ruby is aromantic.
He is also known to have a very sick sense of humor.
He has difficulties committing to one familiar.
