Biography

Ecthelion
"Do it! At least I can’t be blamed for being my own murderer!"

"I’d have pity on the lad if it weren’t for the simple things in life…such as watching him take the blame for something I did."
If I could find you the tallest point of this ship to push you off of without having to climb there with you as my burden, I would. Except I'm not allowed to do that. In fact, I'm not allowed to do anything except scrub the deck, adjust the sails, scrape the barnacles, fasten lifelines, and sometimes help the cook.

It's not my fault other dragons should be skewered where they stand! Every time something goes wrong they blame it on Ecthelion. Oh, Ecthelion didn't check the lifelines! Ecthelion was the last dragon scraping away at the hull! It's his fault the hatchling ended up in the sea! Blame him! Blame him!

I hate it. Why am I still here? Because no other clan will take me. At first, all I had to do was make sure my sister didn't blunder her way into some dragon's claws because she wanted to help them and then it was me who was walking into a fight with no one to help me. Lana got all the attention in a little bit of time. The only thing that saves me from being dragged along the hull is that I can fight and I do.

What do they say about spirals? We tie ourselves in knots? I get hyper, yeah but so does every other spiral on Sornieth. I don't tie knots though. I do circles around dragons. Even if I don't fight them, I distract them. Except most of the scars I have are from fighting. This one on my eye? Kholin gave it to me in the ring. I didn't volunteer him to fight me, I hit him with my sword but it stuck in his trunk of a leg! He threatened to pluck my eye out but didn't.

Oh, and this one here? I actually was keelhauled. I started a fight while we were sailing. What else could I do? You can't back down from a challenge Sol knocked me into the rail! So, I took back my scrap of honor by chopping off the tip of his tail. He didn't like it and I didn't like him but nobody defended me when Alibi accused me of starting it.

I've been told many times that I'd be chained to a rock and dropped into the sea. Every time I swing a sword out of line. Except I've never been. I bet it's because I like to fight. Once, I slew a snapper, a fae, and a tundra all in the same clan. Lost my tail tip for it and a few scales but the captain was impressed and I got the armor the tundra was flaunting around. What's worse? An angry guardian or a hyper spiral? Me.

______

But now, life in the Haven is much more different that on the Thresher. I ain't the scapegoat here. I wasn't tormented for every little mistake that happened. If I DID make a mistake, instead of threats a short scolding or lecture was the ones I received.

I even got new equipment to replace my old ones, lighter and sturdier armor, and a new headdress, to boot!

Turns out, a good lot of the dragons here are either runaways, exiled from their clan, or simply travellers that became a member instead.

History
”Ecthelion began life in a nest of four wriggly little Spirals and one tired looking snapper hatchling in the Leaping Water Clan. He and his siblings were told very early on that they would be going to new homes, being sold or given away for the benefit of the clan.

The young snapper was the first to leave, sent off to an Arcane clan allied with their own. Two more of his siblings were purchased after a few days. It was just him and Lana left.
The two were happy to wait with with each other, Ecthelion attempting to draw attention whenever someone came by.

Days turned to weeks, and as the two siblings grew, Ecthelion's hope was vanishing. Soon, he even stopped smiling, despite his sisters attempts to cheer him up. Eventually he just stopped trying, and soon his sadness turned to anger. Why were they unwanted? What was so wrong that no one wanted them?

He started to fight against his clanmates, often to be dragged away by Xander with Lana worrying over his wounds. When fighting failed, he turned to stealing, often sneaking into the dens of other clanmates and stealing valuables.

Then one night everything went south. He made the mistake of attempting to steal from Moxie, the clan matriarch. She awoke, catching him slinking towards the den exit, his claws full of gems, and called out. Xander was upon him before he could even turn, holding the wriggling thief under his claws.

The Guardian, not wanting to kill the dragon he had watched grow up, decided that he would either be relocated, or exiled, deeming him unworthy to serve under the Tidelord.
His arms shackled, he was led away from the Sea of a Thousand Currents.” He was saved from exile by getting hired onto a pirate ship along with Lana. His petty theft and aggression proved him useful for pillaging but Ecthelion became the object of amusement for much of the crew when anything went awry. Oftentimes, it was his fault but on occasion he was blamed for things he didn’t do and he was punished frequently.
When he was first threatened to be tied to a rock and dropped into the sea, his sister stepped in to defend him and while the threat remains present, it has never been carried out.

The mutiny that put Razik in charge of the ship also saw Ecthelion leaving the moment they were close enough to land. He escaped over the side of the ship, swimming to avoid being caught despite his bright colors and abandoning the excess weight of his equipment and apparel. Despite his love for his sister, the spiral wasn't prepared to serve the considerably brutal captain nor was he willing to risk his life over her stubborn decision to stay aboard.

He ended up on the dreary and foreboding shores of the Tangled Wood in an emotional tangle of regret, anger, and sorrow, but feeling freed of his fear. During his flight over he Tangled Wood to reach the auction house the spiral was caught in a dangerous storm that nearly killed him. He found himself hopelessly lost and nearly entangled in the Foxfire Bramble. Unable to fight the storm on tired wings, the spiral hunkered down near the base of a cliff to avoid the worst of the storm.

It was there that he was discovered by Akihiko of the Hidden Haven. The skydancer was returning to the clan after testing his talent of keeping something burning during the rain. It was he who sought permission to offer the dragon temporary sanctuary until the storm passed and it was he whom Ecthelion considered a friend in the long run. The spiral had noticed the immediate differences between the clan and his former crewmates. Ecthelion was not the object of torment nor was he blamed for everything. For Ecthelion, that meant far less marks on his hide and a place to nest and remain safe more than convinced the dragon to stay.

Ecthelion sports many scars, many of the odd ones being from punishments for not carrying out an order correctly or because another dragon didn’t take the blame. His quick and near-tireless fighting has proven to be both a distraction and deadly in fights but ambition has kept him near the bottom of the ranks.
