Biography
Both of Iago's parents were comfortable with the darker side of draconic nature from a very young age, and Iago certainly looked the part, even when he was young. He has always been quiet and dignified, well-mannered and well-spoken, and possessed of an outwardly calm demeanor that most dragons are happy to mistake for peaceful. Iago's fearsome appearance helps lend him a force of presence that can fill up any room when he chooses, and the subtle threat of violence written in his careful phrasing usually finishes the job. Most of the time, Iago doesn't have to lift a finger.
He learned his trade well, learned his limits early, and struck out on his own the moment he felt completely ready. His parents helped when he was young, of course. But Iago had a knack for his chosen trade and a drive to succeed that could not be stopped. His alliance with Clan AXQU was a plum relationship to gain early on, and having a source of quality weapons gave himself and his family a huge edge over his competition. Iago's business dabbles in a little bit of everything: racketeering (protection and otherwise), arms trading, money laundering, and even the occasional restaurant. He just describes himself as a "consummate businessman."
Iago never intended to settle down when he was young, until an absolutely drop-dead gorgeous waitress got hired on at his favorite local diner. Despite warnings from his running crew at the time not to get distracted by 'some girl,' he absolutely could not get her out of his head. Suddenly, he couldn't wait to start a family of his own. Iago went back, day in and day out, just to get the chance to talk to her. Emilia just described the young boss as "very polite," and "charming," until the day he asked her out. She'd been so focused on what he was that it didn't occur to her that his interest in her was anything special.
He adored her sense of humor. And her smile. And the very flattering (yet classy) stripes down her sides certainly didn't hurt. Iago still spoils her years into their relationship like he did the first month they found each other.
Their children tend to take after Iago, wearing his glorious black beard, but almost all of them have their mother's classy stripes. They're generally charming and urbane, with a slight unsettling knife edge underneath that causes natural deference in others, but their approaches to doing business are as varied as the colors of their hides. Iago loves his whole family very very much. Harming any of them, for any reason, is generally considered a poor strategy for long-term survival.
