Biography
Berry was not intended for us at first, but the unknowable had other plans for him. Right before exaltation, it intervened directly and led to him and his brother Carmine being brought to us. Both arrived to us as hatchlings, shaken from their experiences, but Berry so much more so. He was more attuned to the unknowable than his brother, more attuned then most--perfect for a seer, and almost teetering on the edge of being one of the blind.
He is plagued with anxiety due to his visions, which he claims foretell of his death (a death he must've narrowly avoided by coming to us). He is constantly looking to do things that he can use to distract himself, and despises falling asleep because of the nightmares he has. We suspect these nightmares are just intense visions, though. The older seers are trying to help him cope with these visions (particularly his grandfather Haven), but if they get too intense, the blind will likely welcome him. He just needs to know that he has nothing to fear. Carmine does his best to help him, to show him this, but the results are mixed. At least Berry knows that Carmine understands to some degree, and that at least brings him some comfort.
He is close friends with Aglilbol, who underwent something similar (albeit with less stakes and less ongoing intensity). He has a soft spot in his heart for Penemue as well, who is often around thanks to her father being the first blind and her mother being a seer. Her pleasant demeanor and soothing nature tend to calm him and ground him. Aglilbol keeps teasing him about his feelings for Penemue and encouraging him to tell her how he feels. As the situation in the commune began to rapidly deteriorate and his visions became all the more frightening, he finally bit the bullet and confessed to Penemue, fearing he may lose the chance to in the face of what's to come. To his relief, she felt the same way.
When Penemue was going to flee, she told him that she would be going. He insisted that he come with. He wanted to be free of this, of this burden that he did not ask for, and he did not want to be without Penemue. She allowed this, and he and Carmine both left us. Losing a seer to the sightless rebels is a blow to morale, but we are trying to keep our heads up. Berry was always a weak seer anyway.
