Though he isn't large as far as imperials go, there's a menacing air that surrounds Gombellas. Despite his lack of training, he refuses to back down from a fight even if retreating would prove the smarter option, much to the chagrin of the more tactical MidnightSavana. Should the opportunity present itself, Gombellas will fight viciously to the bitter death with little regard to strategy. For some time, the rest of the clan had an unspoken agreement to keep him from battling at all, at least until the troubled imperial had attained some form of self-control. Lumina's arrival seems to have subdued Gombellas somewhat, allowing Tesla to tentatively train him.

Ellowyn and Annabelle found him half conscious and bleeding profusely while they were out scavenging one day. They helped him back to the lair but recovery was difficult as the restless imperial would slip out unnoticed and roam the surrounding area, getting into fights with anyone he deemed a threat (exactly how he decides this still remains a mystery). Eventually, the more experienced fighters of the clan had to take turns watching over Gombellas to ensure he stayed put and healed properly.

Gombellas says little and any questions about himself or his past are simply met with an icy glare. Surprisingly enough, his stoic grumpiness doesn't stop many other dragons from finding him irresistibly attractive. Though he'd never admit it, he has a grudging respect for the clan's three main warriors, a bit of a soft spot for Ellowyn and Annabelle, and he is fiercely protective of Lumina. He and Ary have a strange, uneasy relationship of sorts. Gombellas also strongly dislikes the young new upstart imperial with the horribly bright, shiny scales and annoying happy-go-lucky demeanor.

Sometimes during his nightmares, others have heard him whisper the name "Vera".
