Biography
Welcome to
The Abyssal Caves
Deep below the vast open ocean, lies a world unknown.
A vast expansive ecosystem exists here, not seen by the likes of man or dragon kind.
If one were to venture to this mythical world, they would be met with sights that defy the imagination and logic.
---
The Entrance
If you happen to find yourself miles below the ocean, you are greeted by the Abyssal guardian.
Not much is known about her, but she stands guard over the cave entrance like a sentry.
While just speculation, it is thought she can sense the intentions and character of those she encounters,
permitting entrance to those deemed worthy.
Making your way into the entrance to this wonderous other world,
you are met by endless twinkling lights on the ceiling that illuminate a vast open cavern.
These lights are produced by a species of bioluminescent worm, not entirely unknown to the world above.
These creatures are known as glow-worms, but this species is only endemic to the Abyssal Caves.
They produce a glow so bright, it seems like daylight, though you are miles below the surface.
This light is so powerful that it causes algae to grow, which the worms feed on.
They are a vital part of all the biomes to be found here.
Yes, that's right. Biomes. Let's get into it.
The Dark Water Lakes
Once past the entrance cavern, the caves open up into endless vast wilderness.
Nearest the entrance lie the dark water lakes.
These bodies of water vary in size, but are all characterized by their extreme depths,
making the waters appear a very deep dark blue.
The flora of the area comprise many grasses, small unusual trees, and many varieties of mosses.
Large stones and boulders are peppered around the landscape, making it look very dynamic.
Many insects, fish, and other small mammal-like animals can be spotted in the area.
Several very ancient species of dragon reside in the Abyssal Caves,
and here in the dark water lakes, dwells the monstrous serpentine Imperials.
The massive, regal, and powerful dragons spend their time patrolling their territory.
These lakes serve as their breeding grounds and they guard the area ferociously.
Their breeding habits are unknown, but it is suspected that their nests lie at the extreme bottom of the lakes.
The Bioluminescent Marshes
Bordering the lakes are the marshes.
One thing to note is that this entire area glows with gentle lights everywhere you look.
Everything that can be found here produces bioluminescent light.
Tall thin grasses with glowing tips, flowers with glowing stamen,
and even creatures that look like birds with light tipped feathers.
So many flora and fauna call this marshland home.
It is here that you will find a smaller species of dragon, the glowing Veilspuns.
Unlike other Veils that call the Caves home,
these emit the same bioluminescent glow as all the other living things in the area.
These majestic Veils build elaborate nests from the native grasses.
They are expertly woven and one could describe them as decorative.
Even after these grasses are picked for nest building, they continue to emit a soft glow,
and blend in well with the surroundings, providing camouflage for the unhatched eggs.
The Monochrome Grasslands
To the east of the Marshes, you will come across a vast open grassland.
This area is extremely unique, as unlike the other locations described so far,
this grassland is a stark monochrome.
Grasses, shrubbery, and all life here is a shade of white, black, and grey.
Somehow, deep in this cavernous world, strong winds blow through here at a constant rate.
Like the Marshes, Veilspun dragons can be found here. Two species, in fact.
A timid, and secretive black and white species, and a boisterous, floral all white species.
The shy, black and white species is very illusive. Very little is known about them.
Their camouflage is some of the best in the natural world,
so even if they were to be more out in the open, spotting them is near impossible.
Their eggs share in this quality, and stumbling on one of their nests,
you most likely wouldn't even realize you've found it even if it was mere feet away from you.
