But he was ever curious and ever hopeful… his arrival had already sparked a chain of events he couldn’t prevent. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ louder than loneliness |

More than shadowed, it’s clear that Gautier’s woods were hallowed – Ajuh could see that the clan considered the area honoured, at the very least, and his arrival earned him wary gazes. After all, he had begun his line of questioning concerning the Entity in their history. Here, it was called Senri, a name synonymous with irrational and all-consuming hunger. This revelation only made him surer that this Senri was indeed a creature who encompassed the concept of hunger so intently that it became it. Like Rayna. As simple as breathing, Rayna’s existence craved conquest… As simple as breathing, Senri’s craved consumption. It was fascinating even though it was slightly disappointing. He had travelled this way purely for the sake of research into Entities and Senri’s current condition and status made that quite impossible. It also didn’t help that the Gautier’s resident… ‘creatures’ were overly suspicious of him – Wickers, they called themselves, the ones responsible for the Hunger’s current state – as they thought his goal of research meant compromising the peace that was already on the verge of breaking. He had no interest in making enemies here, certainly not ones powerful enough to seal an out-of-control Entity, but he still wanted to know more regardless. Here. The whisper is quick and convincing. It’ll help. Before he could even question the words or who the hell was speaking, a stranger approached him – no, it was Daphne, wearing that odd grin as his eyes locked with Ajuh’s. |

“Ah, Ajuh.” The librarian looked at him, amusement in his tone. He always seemed amused whenever he stumbled onto him. “Demeter and Dagon giving you the cold shoulder again?” He was referencing how the Wickers pointedly ignored his questions about Senri, opting only to answer questions that were just repeats of what he already knew. Still, the know-it-all tone and sardonic expression on the other man’s face was annoying and insulting – Daphne knew it. Ajuh tried to give a kinder expression though his voice was somewhat strained. “They’re doing what they think is right… How can I fault them for that?” Daphne laughs. “Easily. You travelled far for answers and you’re met with immediate suspicion. Its quite reasonable to fault them.” It seemed like Daphne was intent on stirring the pot today. Ajuh sighed. “Whatever. Why’re you here? You never try to find me unless you have some sort of idea in your head.” Daphne gives him an impressed smile. |

It was frustrating. He was undeniably fishy – his connection to the Hunger was desirable from a research point of view since the Wickers were more useless than Ajuh had previously expected, but working willingly with an Entity that had lost all rational thought was inherently a point of suspicion. There would always be an underlying sense of deceit in each interaction, no matter how desperately Ajuh wanted the knowledge in his head. There’s a wince on his face when Daphne speaks as if he’s hearing two voices overlapping each other at times. “I thought I should help.” Ajuh hears the words ‘should help’ twice. “Why don’t you and I work a bit more closely? I promise to respect any distance you want.” Ajuh looks at the hand outstretched to him and against his better judgement, he takes it. |
