Hanako is a very quiet dragon. Few have even heard her speak, and those that have usually consider her very strange. She enjoys thinking very deeply about things, especially her existence. She generally seems cold and emotionless to other dragons, but anyone who's seen her around Martel knows that's not true. Although sometimes she seems to barely acknowledge the tundra's existence, the two are like sisters. They're almost always together. Hanako loves the little tundra and her shenanigans, and can barely keep the smile off her face when they're together. She likes to watch Martel's magic practice, and sometimes participates. She loves using her powerful magic, and does so almost any chance she gets. She loves to experiment, too, which doesn't always end up how she wants it to. She's gotten into trouble more than once on account of not being careful, but that doesn't deter her in the slightest.

Here's the story that Hanako kind of wrote for herself. I decided to try and write her story for a prompt. It began as a little thought after reading the prompt, and after realizing it should belong to Hanako, the rest just easily flowed.

----

What was my beginning like? Well, that's hard to say. Honestly, I'm not even sure, myself. In my beginning, I guess there wasn't much of anything. No light, no sounds. Nothing. I'm not so sure there was even me. In fact, I'm still not fully convinced I'm here, even now. It seems fitting to say it was dark and empty, but I suppose that doesn't really apply, either.

After my empty beginning, something happened. A star. Or at least, that's what it looked like. The first thing in my nothingness. It brought with it light and warmth. It was faint, but it was there. And it didn't stop there. More little lights flickered into my empty void. And then, they grew. Slowly, at first. But then it became faster. They grew and grew, consuming all the nothing, and eventually, me. It hurt my eyes, and it burnt my skin. Then, I awoke, suddenly, in a world. It was there I felt that, finally, I might exist. There was a strange warmth on my skin. I couldn't place it. It was like nothing I had experienced in my void, up until that light broke in.

A throbbing feeling in my head brought me to my senses. I suddenly took a deep breath, which cured the throbbing in my head. Breathing. That was something new. Around me, I heard joyful cries. Some comment about how they were glad I wasn't dead. These sounds were new to me as well. An idea struck me, and I opened my eyes before quickly shutting them again. The light hurt. But just like the Arcanist before me, I quickly grew curious about this light as well, and opened my eyes again. In front of me was a wide blue sky. The sun was there, as well. I loved that blue sky. It was a beautiful color, and so much more pleasant than my nothing.

I was caught by surprise when a little face poked it's way in front of me. It looked a lot like mine, in color. But it was covered in fur, and there were two bright yellow eyes that stared at me. "He-hello!" said the ball of fluff. She was scooped away from me by someone, though. "She only just hatched. You have to be careful," someone cautioned the little tundra. "O-okay...." She was clearly disappointed. I didn't really understand why. Nor did I understand what she was. Or what I was.

Carefully, I moved my hand. It responded, though it seemed a bit stiff. I carefully sat up, which proved to be more difficult than I thought. Around me were a lot of bright colors, taking the shapes of many different dragons and species. There were some things around that didn't really look like dragons, though. There was also a home carved into the nearby rock, leading into shade. And eventually, perhaps complete darkness.

"Hello, little one," a white fae greeted me. She had pastel pink wings. The pink equivalent to the sky, I thought. I opened my mouth in an attempt to talk like I had seen the others doing, but all that came out was some sort of squeaky noise. She laughed at me. "Hatchlings are always so cute." She gently patted my head. "How about... Hanako?" she asked me. I didn't really understand what she was asking, but I liked the sound of it. Hanako. It made me smile. "Alright. Hanako it is."

"Haaanaa," the little tundra said.
"Yes. Hana. Very good, Martel," another dragon praised the little tundra, much to her enjoyment.

I still didn't really understand what was going on, but I was happy to have something. And that was all that really mattered at that point.

"Oh, I'm sorry. You probably didn't really want such a lengthy backstory. I just... kinda got a bit carried away, I guess."
