Terpsichore

Terpsichore conducts the clan’s choir. She will be the first to admit that it’s not a particularly talented choir — they aren’t winning any competitions or performing at any major events or anything. However, for the dragons who have the time to participate in the choir, it’s a great way to express their voices, and anyone is willing to step up to sing if it means helping to drown Aierra out.

But Terpsichore has a greater interest in the choir beyond just singing for fun or smothering Aierra’s squawking. Terpsichore’s real heart lies in preserving the old Banescale songs. They were already lost to history once, and from the moment Terpsichore hatched with her parents’ last song ringing in her ears, she has vowed to never allow those songs to become lost again.

Terpsichore keeps a thick booklet of every Banescale song she’s ever been able to find, both from her own pre-hatching memory to the writing on the walls of the cave she hatched in to what she has learned from her brethren. She carries it with her everywhere, and never sets it down, no matter how practical it would be to do so. She is very paranoid about the prospect of these songs becoming lost again, and refuses to allow that to happen. That’s why Terpsichore teaches choir. She teaches her clanmates the Banescale songs, so that if anything happens to her or her booklet, the choir will remember them.

But good is not nice, and Terpsichore can be extremely abrasive about the subject. She’s a harsh teacher who insists on the choir performing songs over and over and over again until they get them perfect, just like her ancestors would have sang. Even when this is an impossible task for dragons whose breed simply lacks the capabilities to make the kind of sounds Banescales can, Terpsichore insists they perfect it anyway. She refuses to allow the songs of her ancestors to be performed in any way short of perfection, and will be as mean as she has to in order to drill that into the choir’s heads.

In addition, she’s very prejudiced against Gaolers. As far as Terpsichore is concerned, even the modern day descendants of the Gaolers from long ago are guilty of crimes against her kind, and she refuses to allow them to even listen to the choir’s practices. She’s very paranoid that they’re trying to steal the songs, to erase them from history once again, no matter who the dragon is or how ridiculous this idea seems to them.
