Biography

It’s easy to get lost in the Foxfire Bramble, sharp thorned vines that twist and tangle, tripping you up as you stumble through the dark. Even in midday when the sun should be shining high above, the plants seem to knit tighter together, keeping the land beneath it shrouded and cool. Though for the same reasons that it’s difficult to traverse, it provides the strongest form of defense to those that find their homes among the knotted roots.

Since the light is so thoroughly blocked out, many creatures both great and small have had to find other ways of moving through the land. For some, their nose is their guide; though certain strongly smelling plants could easily lead them off the right path. For others, physical trail markers can provide directional information through touch; but any item can become buried, eroded, or subsumed by the vines. Even trails of magic fade over time, and plants have their own magic that could send a dragon in circles for years.

The one method the Bramble hasn’t managed to replicate or smother, is music. Simple noises like animal calls are too easy, but dragon songs, with instruments and lyrics, melodies and chords, they’re much too complex for the natural world to copy. The woven canopy gives ample room for acoustics to travel, sound traveling for miles to potentially guide a lost soul to safety. So there, hidden deep in the darkest region of Sornieth, lies a clan of music.

Mashup Manor, an old and nearly forgotten building, filled with new life through the power of song. Dragons of all flights have gathered together under one roof, musicians and singers and artists of sound, safe inside the natural protection surrounding them. Through the troubled times and the celebrations, this clan uses their musical talents to keep their hopes high and their hearts warm.

Each dragon has their own song, unique from every other, composed with notes and words according to the individual. Arguing with another clan resident would cause a discordant tune to echo the halls, but finding love would spark a sweet harmony. Even hatchlings are raised on the songs of their parents, names chosen from the lyrics, humming or whistling along in a higher key until old enough to find their own.

Some claim the power of song in the manor is strong enough, the dragons have formed their own magic. Singing of light together could brighten the room, or harmonizing about warmth could stop a freezing dragon’s shivering. As a dragon gets older and starts to forget their own song, others can step in to sing what they remember, and the old dragon might feel youthful enough to dance along. It could be magic, or perhaps it’s just the power of music.

No matter what it comes from, these dragons are a family, held together through sound. Songs of work and rest, of love and loss, songs of every genre and theme are welcome here, bringing together dragons from every walk of life. So if one is lost in the Foxfire Bramble, lost and unable to find their way, they would do best to keep an ear out; they might hear the sound of a warm welcome, a melody to bring them out of the cold.
