Shardbreaker
Quirky | Intelligent | Sarcastic
”I don’t go around launching giant ball’s of crystal at my neighbors with no warning. Well, most days, anyway."
The clattering and smashing of branches is nothing compared to the way the earth shakes as the unidentified object smashes its way through the trees and lands in a crater in the clans training fields.
“Well,” Sharbreaker says, and he smacks his lips together a few times thoughtfully before he says, “That’s less than uh, ideal.” He rises from his desk and gathers his things before making his way out to the fields to investigate. The trainer dragons and their charges are all speaking in hushed tones when he arrives, standing beside the large, pale blue, and smoking rock. He approaches Juniper and clucks his tongue at the rock. “What seems to be the problem?” “Why,” Juniper says, still staring upward at the hole in the tree cover, “It just fell right out of the sky. No warning but a low whistling sound and then the trees cracking. We barely got out of the way in time.” Shardbreaker put’s on his magnifying glass and inspects the stone. “This is just simple Celestine,” he says, clucking his tongue again. “Though it’s quite a large sample. Must have been some sort of experiment gone awry at the Observatory.” The young dragons mutter amongst themselves interestedly. “Well, what should we do with it?” Juniper wonders. “Let me just take a quick sample,” Shardbreaker says, pulling tools from his kit, “You know, just in case.” He chips off a few large pieces of the shiny blue rock and puts them in his bag. “There we are,” he says, and dusts his claws off. “Well, I suppose we could get out the catapult, launch it back at them,” he says with a small snicker, “Return what’s lost, and all that.” Juniper chuckles at him. “My friend, you have a very mean sense of humor.” “Maybe,” Shardbreaker says with a wink, “But I don’t go around launching giant ball’s of crystal at my neighbors with no warning.” Shardbreaker pauses, wobbles his head a bit and says, “Well, most days, anyway.” |
