HISTORY
Asad wanted to be an archaeologist ever since she hatched. She heard stories from her parents about when the obelisks emerged from the ground so few years ago, and she felt a call back towards that cracked earth. She wanted to meet new dragons, learn about the ancient past of Dragonhome, and participate in petty academic feuds (which is a lot more fun than it sounds). She was on the "front lines" when the ancient undertide dragons slithered out from the depths. She was still young then, just recently journeyed away from the shelter of her original clan, and eager to learn everything she could. She was somewhat disappointed that the undertides didn't actually remember the ancient days; she was under the impression that they would. Still, she did her part to learn about their needs and help them settle into their new clans when they needed help. Asad gained a reputation as a skillful mediator, but not as a pushover. She's a powerful advocate for anyone who needs a loud voice on their side. It was something of a nomadic existence, but Asad decided she liked the isolation. Asad performed the same service for the sandsurge dragons who emerged from underground. She met a pair of sandsurges who were very picky about the clan they wanted to join, and requested her services in help settling down. She was glad to help, at first. Then she started to get frustrated with Caspar and Rithik. Every time she thought her work was done and she could move on, they'd find something else to dislike, rile up some disagreement, create some problem that would necessitate they go back to searching. After about five clans went by, Asad confronted them and said that if they didn't stay with the next clan she found for them, she'd be forced to stop helping them. The next clan she found was the Haven. Now it was Caspar and Rithik's turn to confront Asad; they said they really enjoyed Asad's company, and they were worried about her. They could see how living without a clan was grating on her, how her commitment to others meant she was foregoing any commitment to her own health. They had spoken to the leadership of the Haven, and they invited her to stay in the clan with them. Then, they said, they would be satisfied, and they would stay. Nowadays Asad has stopped doing fieldwork (for the most part). She's taken up gardening, and enjoys it very much. Sometimes she helps Nemesis and the other overseers with the culture shock of new ancient dragons settling in, but mostly she writes scathing academic articles, laughs loudly with her friends, and basks in the sunlight of her windswept garden. |
