When Olin took to the Sea, he swore to change his appearance. He believed as a Fae, the world would eat him alive. So, he took to the cauldrons of his home Flight of Plague, and begged to be transformed.

And so, he was.

Mirrors have an insatiable appetite, but Olin soon found that his appetite was not exclusive to food. He wanted adventure. And so, he set off adventuring.

Many times, he found work as a bard. He'd inherited his mother's gift for song, and, though clumsy with his new limbs and larger body at first, he soon became quite adept at dancing as well. He made a small fortune entertaining merchant ships, and led a great life.

That was, until a band of pirates sank his latest gig to the bottom of the Sea of a Thousand Currents, and he almost met the Undertides up close.

First taken aboard as a servant, made to clean and cook and do little else but observe, it was apparent that the pirates who captured him needed a skilled warrior. So Olin became part of the very same crew that had destroyed his livelihood. Left with nothing but the clothes on his back and Cox, his faithful Harlequin Feathercroak, Olin had no choice but to do his new captain's bidding.

While docked at a small pirate city at the southern edge of the Shifting Expanse, he met Rouille, a cunning, smarmy Ridgeback who was not only a seasoned pirate, but also currently working under a young pirates captain named Denica, who swore to find the seas she had long ago prophesized were real.

Olin took the opportunity to leave his cruel masters, and Denica eagerly welcomed him aboard, especially because he could provide lively entertainment.

One night, while he was keeping watch while docked near the Heart of the Grotto, he saw a beautiful young Guardian swimming in the bright moonlight. The scales on her hide shone bright like glistening stars, and her deep, thoughtful blue eyes seemed to look up at the moon with a wistfulness only written about in the finest poetry. Olin fell in love immediately, and hoped to find the Guardian the next day. But, even though he scoured what felt like the entire clan, she was nowhere to be found.

Olin, thinking perhaps he dreamed of her, spent all day writing the perfect song to capture his phantom beauty. When night came, he volunteered to be on first watching, hoping maybe his dreams would greet him once more.

Sure enough, they did, and he found out that she had a voice, melodic and sad and old beyond her years, that spoke of ancient dynasties and a legacy full of joy and turmoil in equal measure. He couldn't help it. His voice joined her own, and their music blended together under the welcoming moonlight.

He found out her name was Sonephae, and he knew that it was because of her song that he loved her.
