Biography
If it wasn't for her eyes and the runes that mark her body, most dragons would assume that Abalone was an Arcane Undertide from the outskirts of the domain. Abalone would prefer it if they did, as she doesn't want to think of or identify with the Arcane Undertides ever again.
Their emphasis on the importance and value of Mana Vibrancy and Arcane Power left a lasting impression on the Unnamed hatchling. Her prospects for mating, status, social value and self worth were all dependant on the Shade, Tone and Vibrancy of the runes that marked her scales.
Abalone would receive a name only when she proved her worth and value to the clan, and thanks to her pale Pistachio runes there would be few options for her to do so.
She could spend her life working as a servant for the clan, and receive a name when one of the Court chose to commend her for her service.
She could have a mate chosen for her, and receive a name only if one of the hatchlings produced was Vibrant enough. Gods knew how long that would take, and love would not likely blossom between herself and the chosen sire.
She could choose to be Exalted, and receive a name before being committed to the Arcanists service for as long as it was required of her.
She could enter the coliseum, fight to kill as many creatures as possible, and hopefully receive a name that way.
Or, she could swim away.
.......So she swam away.
Abalone was named Abalone by a group of friendly Outskirt Undertides, who said she resembled the shells of the creatures so closely it would be a crime not to name her as such. Most of these dragons bore colours and patterns far more similar to their natural environments, and many had more in common with their prey and companions when it came to patterns and traits. Their naming conventions were based around these similarities, and so the newly named Abalone found herself getting to know dragons like Sandcloud, Lionfish and Eel. Among the group there were a few dragons Abalone thought looked familiar, dragons with rune markings like hers, or names that didn't fit. Though none were ones she'd known before she caught them giving her similar looks on occasion. It seemed she wasn't the only Undertide who'd left for the outskirts.
Barnacle is one such undertide. Marked by mana scales in bright and vibrant splotches.
