Biography

Lapis
The Blue Rose
85686734p.png
A dashing phantom thief who leaves a blue rose as her calling card. A master of disguise, she slips through even the tightest security in pursuit of her prey. She returns all she steals, seemingly doing it for sport, but is there more to her story?
-Dragalia Lost Character profile

With a stir, Lapis woke.

What happened? She remembered breaking into those old ruins that a member of Noir Magazin had laid claim to. They had been dark and musty, and full of ancient markings. The walls had been made of rusting metal rather than stone, much older than any ruins Lapis had been to before. The treasure - and knowledge - to be found there was great, Lapis was sure.

The ruins were nowhere to be seen now. She was outside in an open expanse, surrounded by greenery and plant life. Water trickled in the distance. The moss was soft underneath her. Where was this?

Lapis thought back on what had happened. A mana kiln - she had found a mana kiln. One that was likely over a thousand years old, from the looks of its design. This was what Noir Magazin were after, no doubt. She had tried to figure out how it worked; these ancient machines were far from Lapis' speciality, but she was curious. The old kiln still functioned, miraculously. Mana flowed freely as the machine had whirred away, lighting up the area.

Then it turned dark.

The kiln had let out a terrible cracking sound, and black mana began pouring from its edges. The room was filled with miasma almost instantly. Lapis had panicked; she was not expecting this place to contain such foul energy. As she reached to shut the machine off, a familiar rumbling sounded by the kiln. Space itself split open - an Otherworld Gate! - and Lapis was dragged to the space between worlds.

She remembered little of what happened during her time spent in the Otherworld. It must have been brief, at least, given she was still alive. So what new world was this that she had arrived in?

Slowly, she rose. That was when she realised: I'm not human anymore. She tested this new form carefully - her limbs were short and her body elongated, and a pair of bat-like wings sprouted from her sides. She was familiar with dragons, of course, but she had never experienced the powerful shapeshifting that the royal family of Alberia wielded. Even in her brief time working alongside the youngest prince, he had not granted her that power. Is this what it feels like for you, Prince Euden? Is this what it feels like to shapeshift?

The area was unfamiliar to her. It was certainly nowhere in Grastaea, of that much she was certain. It was beautiful, though, with large sprawling trees and dense thicket. In the distance, Lapis spotted movement around one particularly massive tree. A number of shadows flitted around in the air, and while she couldn't quite make out their shape, they seemed too large to be mere birds. Dragons, perhaps?

"It seems I'll have to discern my location first. Très bien, time to see what's so exciting about this tree!"

It was within the branches of the Behemoth that Lapis learned of her predicament. This was the world of Sornieth, and it was far removed from anything she was familiar with back home. Magic flowed in strange ways, and dragons ruled the lands without a single human in sight. Perhaps most concerning was the fact that no one seemed to know of the Otherworld. Whenever Lapis tried to ask about what lies beyond the borders of this world, the dragons around her paled and excused themselves. She knew the space between worlds was a terrible place; it was a bit of a taboo to discuss anything related to the Otherworld back home as well. But not one dragon was willing to even entertain the idea of answering her queries.

If the Otherworld had been her ticket into this world, surely it could also be her ticket out?

"Hmm. This may be a tad more difficult than I imagined. But no matter! I will find a way to return home; for I am the Blue Rose, she who makes the impossible possible!"
