Skamtare was on his way to his grandfathers clan near the Beacon of the Radiant Eye, wanting to learn more of the Light magic inherent in his Imperial veins. As he passed from the Wild Sanctum and through the Tangled Woods, he came across one of Clan Seiasa's Merchant crew, who informed him the the Emperor's Wake had recently cut through the path to the Beacon and the land was too dangerous for travel. Julshow, a dancer who traveled with the Merchants, caught Skamtare's eye, and the two felt an immediate connection. He offered to sing and play for her performance that night and she agreed happily, and the two of them put on a stunning show.

Kuggvridning, Julshow, and Fabian suggested that Skamtare accompany the band back to the Hewn City, where he could then continue traveling along the coast.

On the journey back to Clan Seiasa, Skamtare and Julshow grew closer, and Skamtare decided to stay with the clan and see how life in the Hewn City suited him.
